It pains me to say this, it really does....but...
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in its current state...
Is absolute crap.
When Counter-Strike originally became mainstream in 1.5 it soon became the most played online game in history. Valve was supposed to be attempting to make a Counter-Strike that was a graphical and mechanical upgrade over 1.5-1.6. What we have instead is a poorly done hybrid of CS:S and COD.
The whole point of CS:GO was to try and bring Counter-Strike back to the competitive glory of old, they wanted it to be headlining the biggest tournaments in the world, as it once had. (Source continues to never be adopted by the majority of the CS competitive community for it's problems)
They promised that they would be getting constant feedback from the best pro-players in the world in attempt to bring it back to its former glory.

It was written by Lurpis, currently one of best players in the world. He has his hand on the pulse of the competitive gaming community, and he was promised by Valve that his feedback would be heard.
Instead they have decided to listen to about 5 CS:S pros that are essentially being paid off to say this game is good.
Next, for those of you who do not know me, I was once a professional CS 1.6 player. (No Lurpis mind you) But as a young teenager I made small amounts of money by traveling the tournament circuit in my home state of Texas.
I love Counter-Strike and I have been incredibly excited and hopeful that CS:GO would be the game that brought the franchise back.
After a long wait, I finally got my CS:GO beta key in last week and after a decent amount of play time I want to share with you the issues that will keep CS:GO (In its current state) from becoming the game that it COULD be.
First and foremost, spraying, they have gimped the ability to spray so much that it is almost impossible to handle more than 1 person in front of you as you can no longer spray drag for quick multi-kills. I have typically had great spray control in CS and in CS:GO I can stand 15 feet in front of something, waste an entire clip and find that I only hit them with 1 bullet. This is currently the biggest problem with CS:GO.
This also plays into its second big problem, registry issues. The registry seems decent if the player is over 10 feet away and you are doing one shot bursts. The problem lies with any form of a 3 shot burst/spray or extremely up close encounters. For those of you that play CS you know how often it is for two people to be coming at opposites sides of a corner of a wall and needing to have a quick reaction attempt at a headshot to see who gets the kill. This mechanic almost does not work at all in CS:GO if you are less than 2 feet away from an opponent, getting the kill becomes a matter of luck (Will the bullet hit where I am aiming or not) and not a matter of skill.
Thirdly, movement, CS has always been a hybrid of a typical first person shooter movement (like COD) and the crazy ability to jump around (like Quake). Bunny hopping and strafe jumping are an integral part of what makes CS so unique. It adds to the learning curve of the game... Which leads me to my next point...
The learning curve, what made CS so popular is that it WASN'T a game you could just pick up and own at. Instead, it gave people the incentive to actually grow their skill and be better then their friends, co-workers, whoever. This motivation was nerfed in CS:S (by making the hit boxes bigger) and they are attempting to nerf it even further in CS:GO by making bunny hopping and strafe jumping harder to do and making body shots more powerful. Even the skins for CTs and Ts can easily be mistaken more than 30 feet away from each other which makes good players have to consider who they are shooting (assuming friendly fire is on) giving the less talented of the two players more time to react.
I know this game is still in Beta, but what scares me is that they now have a release date which implies they are getting more comfortable with the game in its current state.
Luckily, these changes wouldn't be hard to make and maybe after the game not being adopted early on, they will listen to the community and make the changes. Or we could get really lucky and they will make the changes before launch.
The game is a gigantic graphical upgrade and they did a good job with the model physics. But without the mechanics being changed, this game will never be what it COULD be.
Some of you will disagree with me, but those of you that do are mostly extremely casual players, that like COD type first person shooters. Which is fine, but it's important to understand that what made this game great was that it was DIFFERENT.
Valve is essentially trying to make a not-as-good hybrid COD, which begs the question... Why not just go play COD?
I hope they listen to the community because I want Counter-Strike back.
