Ventrilo is not working when I play TF2

When I am not playing or I am in the main menu of Team Fortress 2, I can hear people on Ventrilo. But when I connect to a server, it stops working. Can someone suggest a solution for this issue? Thank you for your help.

Sometimes when you join a game, your pc will lower the volume of other programs running make sure in the sound manager that it is not turned down.

Run both as admin

Depends on the version of windows your running. if its Windows 7 or vista there is an option in your sound setting to "lower the volume of apps when mic is in use" can be found under the Sound > communication tab. check "do nothing" and that should fix that, also run both apps as administrator as well
