Looks real interesting, skimmed through the handbook and would love to join. If there is any openings that is, is it usually lots of people interested and hard to attend the event?

Honestly, it varies. In the last campaign, we had weeks where there were a lot of players and we had to work them into to one battle a week (there are two battles each week). We also had a couple of weeks where we had exactly the number of players to fill the roster. However, if you show up to the strat meetings and the battles, you will most likely be able to play.

Apart from what Nuke said,
There were always enough people to fully populate the event server.
If you couldn't get to play in the first match, you'll be able to play in the second match
There's interest for sure.

I've played in the previous campaign, and I loved it.
Also, it always helps to attend the team meetings. Usually two/one day before the realism match.
