In-Game Mic issue

Hey guys and girls.
I have a problem. When ever i play DOD:S my mic stop working, it happens only in game. when ever i go to SHIFT+TAB mode and go to the settings it works fine. but if i go to regular settings(esc-->settings) and do a mic test there it doesnt work, unless i disconnect from the game and then check the settings(then it works fine again)

Any suggestions on what i should do?

PS. ive tried both built in mic(laptop) and extended mic, same thing for both.

#1. Are you playing DoD:S on a laptop?
#2. Are you using the Steam voice chat system or are you using Ventrilo?
