Hey gang,

Just wanted to show some love for a new indie game that came out last week.

FTL: Faster than Light is a seriously sweet game. You have a spaceship with a crew that is in charge of saving the galaxy. You have vital intel for the Federation that must be delivered, but the Rebels are hot on your heels.

Your crew operate at various stations on your ship and you must manage them appropriately to respond to the dangers that encroach your ship. You travel throughout space, trying to stay one step ahead of the Rebels as well as upgrade your ship, add more crew and respond to various unique encounters.

When you die, it's over. You start fresh over with a new ship, 3 new crew and try again. It puts an urgency on the game and you realize how much each decision matters. Certain objectives unlock different ships and alternate layouts for a new take on the mission to save the universe.

It will never play the same twice. The galaxy is randomly generated each play through. I bought it and have been playing it anytime I've been on my computer.

Even cooler is the backstory of its development. Made by two guys the game was near completion but they were running low on finances. Wanting to finish the game without borrowing money they took their chances on Kickstarter and more than met their goal and delivered on their product. Penny Arcade hailed their success in this article that is a great read.

This game is great, it's inexpensive and hard to put down. I believe more than ever that this is the year of the Indie game, and boy do my purchases prove that lol. Hope you have some time (and funds) to check it out!

tl;dr

I'll second the approval. I love this game, and it's cheap as hell. If you buy it straight from the dev's site (ftlgame.com) the developer gets more money, and you get a DRM-free copy as well as a Steam key!

I keep making bad decisions. I'll be about to head to bed, and I'll grab my laptop and end up playing another hour.

I still have yet to beat it, I made it to the end once. The game after that I didn't make it past sector 2 lol.

My first game, I got to sector 6. After that, I struggled to hit the 4th for some reason. I think I got too confident and stopped repairing until I "needed" to, trying to save up for bigger and better equipment.

So far all I've unlocked are the Engi ship, Layout B for the Engi ship and that's it. I'm close to getting Layout B for the Federation ship.

I'm intentionally not looking up how to unlock the other ships, I want to see if I can discover it for myself. Bring back that "old school" mentality just like I did for Legend of Grimrock.

I keep trying for the Federation achievement where you have one crew from each race. I can never find Slugs!
