Hey,(this is mostly for 24/7 Avalanche)
I used to play here back in the start but haven't been around much.
I got on today to find that playing can be chaos. Specially when your trapped on allies. Sure people can "get better" "noob" whatever. The map is obviously favored to the axis, and I know from playing that people will directly go to axis because they know how easy it is.
With that being said let me get to my point. Does anyone think it would be a good idea to make the time lengths shorter instead of 250 minutes or whatever it is, maybe say 45 min. Or play an hour or set a max number of rounds and then the teams swap, allies become axis and vice verse. Thus giving everyone a chance to play both sides, or be able to choose a different gun. We have all been there when one guy rocks the MG for 2 hrs.
Like I said, I haven't been here for awhile so maybe this has already came up. I see that the 24 hr ava server is also full, so no matter what its a good server, but does anyone think this is a good, fun idea, and could it become a possibility.
I think doing this could create a more well rounded community and lead to increased skill improvement. Also I think a lot of people new to the game or to the server get frustrated easily and never get to fully enjoy what Ego is all about-Fun,mature gaming!

I have mixed feelings about that- On one hand, I think its a great idea. I have been trapped on that allied side constantly being 2-3 players down, getting beat up, and it WOULD be nice to be able to swap- even the WHOLE team to see how you play together from the other side. In that respect, I like it.

However, I think that a forced swap would have people leaving the server after their round on axis. If they find themselves all of a sudden on allies, its probable that they will just leave- Avalanche IS always full, and I'm pretty sure the top dogs would like to keep it that way.

Interesting idea, and I like it, but realistically I dont think we can afford to lose players in our most popular server.

My 2 pennies!

I kinda like the idea of a team swap every hour. Or better yet, instead of switching a scramble might work better, since if one team is overpowered, they won't stay that way. I don't think it would cost us players, but I certainly understand the whole if it isn't broken don't fix it. Avalanche is #1.

Well, since Avalanche is the #1 dods server, all i have to say about the matter is: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Yeah, im with that. I really don't think it would make people leave, i think it would actually bring in more people, or make new regulars. Also would bring more people to the forums. If people leave because they have to go to allies after already playing on axis for 30 min-hr + then so be it, those type of people aren't fun to play with in the first place. I truly do get the point about if it isnt broke dont fix it, but i look at it is not fixing a great thing, just adding more greatness to it.

Well this is currently DODS #1 ranked server with its current game play. Doing changes might take away from our already committed and valued community of members and pubs that play on this server. Feel free to dropbox your concerns so that we can better address them as well and so they do not just get lost in a thread.

I think everyone understands your concerns and appreciates your suggestions. The thing is, it's one-sided. Avalanche is the #1 server in the world. That's a fact. That means that we're obviously doing something right. Moreover, eGO is one of the largest, if not the largest, DoD:S communities out there currently. With that title comes many responsibilities and many obligations, not to just one player but to the general whole.

What that means to you...
One of the reasons we've been so successful in our operations here at eGO is that we stand, without falter, to one of our most coveted principles. "We do not tell you how to play your game." That means, we don't kick you for being a sucky sniper, we don't belittle you for missing a shot, and we most definitely don't ban you for not giving up a special class (rocket, mg, sniper).

What it also means is that we let our players play with their own style. If that means a person is going to use the MG42 for 2 hours, fine. As admins, you can politely ask that he change so that other people can use it to avoid an ugly situation, however, for the most part, we won't intervene.

With that said, this principle pretty much goes against your suggestion. By forcing players to swap, people will most definitely leave as they don't want to play an "assigned" side. Moreover, it goes against our "play your own game" style. Furthermore, by lowering round times, people will leave also. This is just a fact, at every round change, people leave. We try to minimize the restarting of our rounds to prevent this.

As BCA stated, please dropbox any suggestions you may have. Every suggestion you make, we as a leadership team will consider it together to see if it's for the benefit of this division, this game, and eGO in general.

Thanks!

First I would like to say that the Allie's can win as easy as the Axis, it up to them to get away fast and take out the balcony and hold it . But most Allies run to their first flag and camp because they have no confidence in them self's. But I have been on Allie's when they have won nearly 28 games straight, what a good feeling.

I agree with London 100% A lot of people believe Avalanche favors the Axis team while I believe it's the team and amount of teamwork, not the map itself that determines the victor. Many times I have been on Axis and have been steamrolled over and over by the Allies. So it works both ways. Just my 2 cents.

Well said cwhit

Also yes I know allies can win, ive lead many victorys on ava on the allies side, fact of the matter is it is axis sided though.
Would have inboxed you guys but didnt see the drop box

the main reason i don't really play ave is i get stuck on allies all the time half the players never want to move up or don't communicate so u are stuck being out number i have gave up ave for most part but one thing iv learned being a late night play is a reset from 250 to shorter will hurt the server. resets always kill servers to bring up the numbers of resets would hurt ave in long run auto swapping players will as well. people do not like being move around with out having there choice to do so. my idea is that since there almost always a admin on that server if it gets to one sided to just ask player to switch if there willing most good players will be up for it knowing they like a challenge:)

Haha, i like that Ikari. I'm going to have to steal that.
I used to be a butcher till I backed into the meat grinder and got a little behind in my work.

Also not to get back on the topic and start people up
but once again just today i was on ego ava and the teams were 15-9 with two e players playing.
Things can be done, I was playing yesterday and im sure you all see it and an eg was afk with mg for 15 min. No admins to kick them. I understand letting people lay how they want to play but cant e and eg lead by example? or can there be a vote kick when admins arent around. I truly understand if it aint broke don't fix it, but it sounds like ego has enough loyalty and people will stick around.
I think in the long run people are going to do the same thing bruce does. sorry if this is bad grammer i hurried though the typing while ingame.

You listed two issues, 1) team imbalances and 2) an eG afk with an MG for 15 minutes --

For (1): Team imbalances of 4 or more (on the rare occasion that they do occur) typically get resolved within a few minutes, at most. That's one of the main reasons why we've never instituted team auto-balancing, or found it necessary to move players from one team to another. Heck, I relish playing on the team that's getting beaten up and then mounting a comeback. Much more rewarding than rolling the same disadvantaged team over and over again.

For (2): We have a ton of admins across all timezones; a simple solution would be to hop onto vent or add a bunch of Gs and Os to your Steam friends, and ask for their help should you encounter a similar situation. "Vote kick" has a tendency to get abused, if enough trolls/bullies are out to make trouble. That said, if you notice a consistent pattern of the eG going afk with a restricted class (or for that matter any admins not properly doing their jobs), feel free to drop box it and rest assured it will be looked into.

This should also serve as a reminder to es and eGs, please don't stack, auto-assign is your friend. Also Os and leadership notice when you act selflessly. If I see an e switch voluntarily to the weaker team to help out/even teams, I usually dropbox a promo recommendation.
