Greetings Community Friends

If you haven't seen the pictures on the news which I am sure you have. New Jersey got SLAMMED in the face with this Hurricane. I have been with out power since Monday afternoon around 2. I have just gotten it back thankfully. Most in town haven't. I am posting just to do a little freelance reporting and let everyone know I will be back in the game hopefully soon. Lots and lots of clean up to do.

Our house survived with no damage. We had some water int he basement but we also have a generator but a lot of people on my street have nothing. A few houses down a tree smashed their roof, and due to the winds gusting it created some crazy vacuum effect inside and blew out of the front of the house and it came crashing down. Another friend of mine, their barn blew apart and all the splinters of wood went crashing into the side of their neighbors house, breaking windows and splintering into cars. Huge pieces of wood just sticking out of this house. Right out of twister the movie ha. Insane to see. We have a crap ton of downed trees and power lines all over town. Most roads are closed and most gas stations are with out gas or only allow a certain amount. Cash only too which is pretty crappy cause most banks are still closed and with out power. People are traveling to PA for gas now. The lines are 3 hours long minimum....and where I am located in New Jersey, we got hit fairly lightly.
People are already jumpy as it is so if one person cuts another in line, there is bound to be a fight. I am surprised no one has been shot yet. My brother decided to go to the local gun store which stayed open. He said they were cleaned out of ammo and shot guns ha. My dad keeps saying, "man its like The Walking Dead tv show!" Haha. Kind of scary though.
The Jersey Shore is basically no more. Sand is piled as high as stop signs, peoples homes ripped from foundations and drifted away. One drifted into a small bridge and took it out leaving lots of people stranded because the other bridge was underwater! Boats and cars are everywhere. It is an insane site to see. You almost have to stop and think about everyone who lost everything because you get caught up in wanting to see more devastation. It is a real shame. There were reports coming from Atlantic City that sand sharks and fish were swimming through the streets. The towns of Brigantine, longport and Margate are all pretty devistated. Obama gave a speech a block away from my friends house. When she saw it she just broke down. Water was up to the front porch. God knows what it looks like inside. They just started allowing people back on the island.

That is about from my end. Like I said hopefully I will get back in the servers and back to normal. I still need my admin training! haha. Anyone else effected by the storm?

I wasn't affected by it, but my Dad lives in Washington DC so I can only hope that he's alright.

From what I've heard/seen-from-photos of the storm, it packed a wallop more inland than it did on the coast due to it being a hybrid storm.

Im in Central PA. I am surprised wind damage was low here, with as high as the gusts were(50+mph)... trees down, and ALOT of flooding. Power stayed on.

Be safe

It is good you are safe. I feel for you guys. I have been through at least 6 hurricanes. It cost $35,000 to replace my barrel tile roof two years ago. My insurance covered most of the cost. I remember watching from my second floor bedroom and seeing 9 1/2 pound tile pieces blow off my roof during the storm.

I went through Hurricane Charley in 2004 and was in a town without power for 2 weeks in the middle of August. I witnessed how bad it is to live without the bare necessities (power, water, a/c, etc) and a lot of the things you described, looting becoming one of the major problems. It's not fun to go through and preparation is key to limit damage.

Luckily no fallen trees near me and I didn't lose any power. I'm on a hill so I was lucky to not have to worry about flooding but...my sister's car was totally flooded (totaled!)(she was at her bf's place) and that... sucked. Transportation is a nightmare right now in NYC and all the gas stations do not have gas (I have half a tank in my car). Hopefully, they'll get a shipment this weekend or that's going to throw a wretch in my plans. A couple of my co-workers homes were burnt down by fire in breezy point (total of 80 - 100 homes burnt to nothing in that area). A few of my friends who live in manhattan do not have power / water and it doesn't look like it will be restored before next week. It has definitely wrecked many families in the east coast

Nope, the coast was devastated. Flooding everywhere... you should look at the pictures of the tunnels / subways / streets. Winds uprooted trees but the waters destroyed many homes

Here is the damaged homes from breezy point

I feel for you guys, we have many storms and flooding here every year so I know what you are going through. It will return to normal soon so chin up and think positive.

To all who were affected, my deepest sympathies and hopes for your speedy recovery.

That being said, not much happened here - no rain, no wind, no temp change, even.

Only 10% of my town lost power, and it was only for about a day. It's good to hear you're safe, and good luck to anyone who had gotten drastically hit.

Oh wow I am sorry some people got hit so hard by the storm. Other than the wind knocking the BBQ off the deck, and the never ending rain, nothing else major really happened.

Yeah parts of my area got hit bad, thankfully I had no damage, but I am still without power. I am at work now. The worst part is that there was almost no communication. Obviously internet and internet based phones were down. However, many cell towers were/are down so even if your phone was charged it was nearly impossible to make/receive calls, texts, or access the internet.

The weird thing is all my neighbors have power and many have had since early Wednesday morning. Out of my entire community only two blocks have no power, mine and one other. At least I have gas in my cars and can go to the stores, most of which have power. Bus to NY is now working too. ITs gettin kinda chilly though, but I do have hot water and my grill to cook on. Anyway, lots of people have it a lot worse, so I wont complain too much. Spoke to a woman and her husband in the deli who had no power and had to take her 80 year parents to see that their home was destroyed because the man keeps asking "When are we going home". See everyone soon.

Sorry to hear about that wewo =( I hope you get power back and we see you soon!

I live on Long Island, NY. My power just came back on after being off for 6 days.. It really sucked. Gas is a huge problem around here too. I had to wait on line for gas for 2 and a half hours.
