PSA From the CS Leadership: Bullying.

I feel as though we do a good job on our online communities, for the most part, in keeping this kind of thing off of our servers, forums, etc. So, good job everybody, and keep up the good work.

And, of course, great thread - read and understood, Ric. Thanks for the post.

Read and understood.

I've been through my fair share of peer-related abuse, and I can say it's not something that should be allowed anywhere, anytime, in any way.

Good post, Ric :3

Awesome and wonderful post Ric, thanks for posting.

Also, if you are getting bullied, don't hide it..I know a certain person who did and they're miserable for not saying a word about it.Some people say words don't hurt, when really they do..

Read and completely agreed. Bullying has no place in games or in RL, and having been bullied for the majority of my school years - I know first-hand how terrible it can be. This is unacceptable and childish behavior that should not be tolerated in any way, shape, or form.

Agreed, man. Bullying is crazy in schools. I am glad you guys want to bring this issue to light within the community.

I sometimes get bullied, but I just shrug it off because I'm so popular in school. I always try to stick up for people and if you need any help, just ask me. I'll always be there.

First, allow me to explain what bullying is:

Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among people that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose. Bullying someone one day has the potential of a snowball effect with everyone joining in.

This also occurs on the Internet, advancing to what is called cyber bullying. Let's check out cyber bullying:

  • Cyberbullying can happen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and reach a kid even when he or she is alone. It can happen any time of the day or night.
  • Cyberbullying messages and images can be posted anonymously and distributed quickly to a very wide audience. It can be difficult and sometimes impossible to trace the source.
  • Cyberbullying often occurs in a vast majority of online games. The reasons for this may vary from someone's age, to the way someone talks, and even the way a person may play his or her game.

Do you know that kids who are cyberbullied are more likely to:

  • Skip school
  • Experience in-person bullying
  • Receive poor grades
  • Have lower self-esteem
  • Have more health problems

With all this said, the CS Leadership needs your help to eradicate bullying. If you see or hear someone being bullied, speak up. We take bullying very seriously and will do everything in our power to cease the activity immediately. By helping us, you help make our community much safer and more enjoyable to everyone from all walks of life. Everyone is welcome to play on our servers.
Thank you,
CS Leadership

Hey Guys,

Recently we have been experiencing a problem with players,
specifically younger players, being bullied in the jail server.
Unfortunately this disrespect is not only coming from pubs on the server,
but our own members, and what's even worse is that fact that admins on the server are not acting to stop these players.
eG's and eGO's alike are allowing this offensive behavior to continue, because they believe that the younger player is also annoying,
due to their voice, or lack of skill in the game.
Flat out this is not acceptable, as everyone who plays the game is there to have fun, and not to be disrespected,
regardless of their age, gender or skill in the game.

From personal experience, I can say that being bullied does not only ruin your gaming experience,
but it can also follow some players outside of the gaming world and into real life.
Often times this can cause lower self-esteem and that is not why our servers have been such a success over time.
We pride our selves on the fact the eGO is a mature and respectful gaming community, and everyone is protected under our rules,
regardless of who they are or what they sound like.

If you see other members ignoring situations like these, or refusing to handle a situation,
please let leadership know by creating a drop box post.
As well if you are seen intentionally ignoring a situation or adding the the disrespect of players,
you will be disciplined accordingly.

Sadly, I've been noticing this as well recently. I do what I can to prevent this, as I do agree that this kind of attitude is completely unacceptable.

Allow me to underscore this point.

Ask yourself: when you were a younger player, would you have had the self confidence to take warden? How would you react if an entire team suicides because you took warden? Or if your fellow CTs tell the Ts that they'll award an ST to the first person to kill you? Or if everybody boo'd you when you took warden/switched to CT?

Thanks for the great post Parvo.
