Recently, you guys may have noticed the recent forum spam and the spammers in ventrilo. While they all work at a common goal to spam, they each spam differently. CS Leadership would like to take the time to review spamming with you.
Forum Spam:
Forum spam is the creating of messages that are advertisements, abusive, or otherwise unwanted on Internet Forums. It is generally done by automated spambots, or manually with unscrupulous intentions.
Forum spambots surf the web, looking for questbooks, wikis, blogs, forums and any other web forms to submit spam links to. They get around CAPTCHAs by using real human interactions.
Ventrilo Spam:
Ventrilo spam has wide varities. From crashing your ventrilo, to flooding with disconnects/connects, to sending you .exe download links, to playing soundboards. We all get aggravated by ventrilo spam at one point or another.
Server Spam:
Server spam is no different and eGO acts strongly against it. Server spam can range from unwanted flooding messages, to advertising for other servers, to recruiting people in our servers for other communities. All of these commit a strong offense when it comes to our rules and will be dealt with promptly.
What Should I Do When I Encounter Spam on the forums?:
If you encounter spam on the forums, the first thing you should do is flag the post. By flagging the post, you notify Leadership and we will quickly get rid of the post. Hey, it also helps you get noticed!
On the bottom left of a post, you'll see a
, click it. It brings you to a page where you can report the post to Leadership, all you have to do is fill out the message.
Keep in mind though, please do not abuse this tool. You can also use this same method to report posts that do not belong on eGO forums. Everyone can help Leadership make our forums pristine and keep the spam away from our home.
What Should I Do When I Encounter Spam on ventrilo?:
If you encounter spam while using our Ventrilo server, please immediately grab anyone with [Advisor] or [DL] next to their name. They will have the ability to remove the spammer from ventrilo. If you can not get into contact with anyone, try using eGO's shoutbox. It's a neat tool that allows you to talk directly with our community. You can find the shoutbox on our website on the right hand side, titled 'ShoutBox'.
Never click on any links that look suspicious to you. If you don't trust the link, go with your instincts. One click and you could lose your steam account, your computer security could be compromised or worse. If you encounter someone giving you a link and it looks suspicious, find a Leadership member.

What Should I Do When I Encounter Spam on the servers?:
Contact an admin if they did not see it. In Source servers, use your teamchat(U) button followed by an @ symbol and your message.
ie; (U) + @ + Hi, someone is recruiting in your server. = (TO ADMINS) Hi, someone is recruiting in your server.
Remember to give them time at first, they are playing the game just like you and may be already discussing the incident in admin chat. When reporting the incident, the key thing you should remember is patience. Our admins volunteer their spare time to keep punks out of our servers and we all should appreciate that.
If no admins are on, condump the situation by accessing console(~/`) and typing in 'condump' without the quotes. This will store a .txt file on your computer that will aid you in your ban request. If you need help with making a ban request, find a senior(eGO) admin to help you
