Hello I am making this thread for those who like me have a competitive nature. Over the last couple of weeks I have made a grave mistake. I had let my competitiveness conflict with the nobility of the tag in front of my name.
it came as revelation to me in the last few days that eGO is not a gaming community with a set of rules there for an arbitrary purpose. It is that way because it has to be, our very success relies on our virtue. That is to say that it is imperative that we continue to uphold the highest standards we possibly can for our community to grow and sustain itself. The eGO tag becomes a representation of a noble cause, while we become players who are supposed to uphold that. While I had thought I had understood this before. There was something there that impeded my ability to act in a way that was ideal, and it was competition.
As we are playing on the servers we have a constant reminder of where we stand as in comparison with other players in the form of the point system. For some of us, especially myself it is very difficult to ignore. The competition starts to take precedence over having fun, trying to complete the games objective, and furthermore in extreme cases the nobility of the tag. What I mean by that is that it becomes difficult to not get angry at someone who kills you in a "cheap" way. That cheap player more often than not is just inexperienced and trying their best to kill you. In some cases people have limited mobility, but all that can be understood at the time is "THAT JERK KILLIN ME FOR SO MANY POINTS".
So why am I writing this? What is the solution? In actuality I don't know, maybe i'll turn the points off and just play in a way that I have fun. All I know is the quality of my conduct in game has suffered due to the way I feel about the competition and from this point on i'm going to try my best to IGNORE that and focus on what I am supposed to be doing, filling the servers, balancing the teams, keeping the server respectful, recruiting and having fun.
