Hello CS Division,

Today I would like to talk about our CS:GO Gun Game Server

b_350x20_C142840-2f5b8a-FFFFFF-000000.png

The server averaged 1 player last month. This puzzled me, and I thought I would come to you, the division, for help.

I would like to know what it would take to get you into our CS:GO server?

I would like to start a thoughtful discussion on this server. I do not want anyone to start bashing the server, bashing CS:GO, or bashing anyone's decision. This is open brainstorming about two things

1) What we can do to make our current situation work?
(i.e. keeping it Gun Game)

2) What do you think would make the server better/more appealing to you?
(this is open to anything)

Then, we can leave it up to leadership to review, and decide for themselves, comparing the two responses, which is the best course of action. Maybe they don't want change, maybe they do. All we can do is offer ideas from our perspective for the open audience.

Here are a few ideas for you to either work off of or start your mind up.

  • As you know, the CS division is known for having little giveaways and events on our regular servers, almost little parties with prizes to show you the fun in each and every server. Is that something you would like to see in CS:GO?
  • Server filling nights in CS:GO?
  • Limit the map rotation to certain popular maps (Dust 2, Nuke, etc. )

Let's begin the thoughtful discussion

Here's my response

I think CS:GO Gun Game has a lot of potential. With all of the updates CS:GO has underwent, it is at its best for server stability and growth.

I believe all we need is support from the players. We do not have a CSS gun game server, and this server offers what CSS can't. You can compare CSS to CSGO like apples to oranges all day long, but in reality, we are not trying to replace or redo our office server here, we are just offering a game mode not offered in our CSS servers to the CSGO crowd.

There are a ton of new players to the CS franchise because of CSGO, and we have no way of reaching that group without this medium. All we have to do is just show them how much fun CSGO gun game is (gun game is a lot of fun) and they will realize how much fun eGO is.
I will personally talk to some ECs about maybe having a server filling night on CS:GO, have a few hours of fun, and get to meet the CSGO pubbers.

However, I think the only maps we should use are stock maps, for fast download. CSGO is a resource consuming game for anyone with a lower end computer, I personally don't like servers that make me wait to download. Fast entry is fast play. Also, stock maps are the most popular.

Sadly csgo gungame doesnt want to start of for me but this is something we should do if we want to even have a csgo server.

The server is currently down for maintenance.

I was wanting to join it the other day, but lack of players. Server filling nights would be fun, especially if it got us on the server list. I have my server settings set to hide servers with no players like others do, so people might not even see us in this state.

Adding another server with classic rotation, or new map rotation might be helpful too. Classic may work for those who like dust and office (me included :)), but the new rotation might help to have newcomers to the series join in too. That way, people can see another ego server on CSGO.

I like gungame as a gametype, and CSGO version is a lot of fun from what I've seen on the other servers. I agree with stock maps too, as it will lead to less load time and people might enjoy them more.

Now, i haven't played the gungame server since it was first realeased, but i'd like to say what i have on my mind anyway (its not much!)

Personally, i dislike the custom gun game plugin. The effects, the sounds, everything. I prefer the built in cs gungame, arms race. It's simpler, faster, and much more exhilarating. I would appreciate it more if it were elss cluttered, more simple. It might be better instead of a whole plugin, just modifying the build in arms race to incorporate that signature eGO style.

Not much people play CS:GO in the CS division in my opinion.

Reason why we only support ONE server for CS:GO

I've hopped in to the gun game server once or twice. I found the maps and order of weapons confusing, having played a few hours of the stock "Arms Race".

As for hosting a server... Well, I play mostly on the competitive ladder. I think you're going to have a hard time keeping a server occupied if most of edgegamers are content to stick to CSS.

Competitive servers and gun games are usually highly populated with a large following, why not try that?

I think gungame is bad, we need to get demolition or Classic Casual. Those two games seem to be popular with the kids these days.

I think it would be beneficial for many of us to give cs:go another chance. A good number of us tried it out and gave up because we weren't as good at it as we are in CS:S. Many of us drew this conclusion and stopped playing within a week. Perhaps we should all try to do are part in "Eating eGO's Dog Food" once more and help populate our server. Pubs are hesitant to join an empty server. I'm not saying that we have to give up one game for another, but it would be a great contribution if we could offer some of our time to help fill an eGO server. With that said, I hope we are able to do our part and contribute to our community who has already invested valuable revenue on a server for us. Otherwise, this server may soon become a thing of the past , and by no means is that a positive way to foster growth for our community.

I personally love CS:GO. I don't play it though because our clan doesn't support it "well". I honestly can understand since no one wants to play gun game. I would love it more if it was on either classic counter strike mode or if we could get the jail maps going on there again. When we tried that before, people were joining and it was very enjoyable. I don't know what happened to it though.

CS:GO is really for competitive gaming and league gaming, that's why not many people play it.
I would probably play it if we had minigames because everyone loves minigames :D

[tl;dr]OK, so you get a large following for a week, maybe two. Then what? People lose interest and we are back where we started. Take dust2 deathmatch for example. After we tried so hard with a contest to get the server filled (which did work for the duration), members and leadership alike stopped going into the server to help fill it. If you look below you we see the servers decline over the past few days.

As you can tell, it just recently has been dropping in spots, but is no longer what it once was. Getting a following means nothing if we are just going to leave servers empty just a few weeks later. It happened with rotation, zombie, and now deathmatch and gun game in CS:GO. I feel that CS:GO Gun Game cannot sustain itself as it is and even if we try to get a following it will most likely die within a month like almost every other server we have tried.

[/tl;dr]
My two cents, bye gun game. Focus on other servers.

*Note this is simply my opinion. You do not have to agree with my opinion.*

You make great points _MEGA, without burning on anyone. This is how it should be done folks

Honestly, if we were going to change anything, I think classic competitive on a standard scrim server such as Nuke (we dont have nuke anything yet)

What is popular in CS? Stock maps (the good ones) on stock play

I see your asterisk - and I recognize it. However your opinion contains an incorrect statement which is quoted above. It is not in my nature to let this go by, because it is a completely false accusation towards not only leadership but our own divisional members, so forgive me for going off topic for a wee moment. I would like to direct your attention to this link: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/egocss#announcements?p=1

Now - I count 12 separate announcements since the 29th of December requesting assistance to fill d2dm. That day is the last day of the contest. Leadership has indeed tried to fill d2dm with great effort from a select number of our finest members including but certainly not limited to: Kamikaze Kat, Vishnu, TheJollyRoger, and ScottBott. My goal of this is not to vilify you, but to beg you to please do your research before making such a claim.

Now back to the subject: Our CS:GO GG was popular for about 3 hours. I know I sound like a broken record, but if you want the server then you have to play it. We made numerous announcements to fill the GG server when it was operational. Most of the time it resulted in 3.. maybe 4 people showing up. We can not support a server like this. We need you guys to help fill the server when we are not around. CS Leadership is a collection of nine people. We all have strenuous lives outside of eGO so we can not be around to start servers 24/7. We need your guys' support to help fill and give these servers life. Take our most recent successful server for example: Italy. This was back before Zimmy and I were even leadership. Leadership tried their best to fill italy but it remained unpopular for the first month or so. There was a period of time where it was quite frankly on the chopping block. A collection of people including Sil3nced, Zimmy, and I played in Italy constantly. I may seem like I am tooting my own horn here but I believe that our core group of players were instrumental in planting the seeds of success for the Italy server. This is what we need now for our D2DM and GG servers. If you guys don't like the servers, then so be it. But if you want to see the strive, I urge you to please make an effort to fill them when you can. It takes a team effort to build a server. The nine people of CS Leadership can't do it alone: We need your help.

tl;dr: Read it.. pretty please.

^ Agreed. If everyone is "waiting for an invite from leadership," then you might as well kiss the server goodbye. They aren't the only saving grace for our precious servers. If you want to keep a server around - you need to join it! Whenever leadership is on, they do their fair share of announcements to help aid our servers with slim numbers. However, we have players from all over the world within our division, surely we should be be able to keep reasonable numbers in our servers throughout the day.

I've seen many of our players go out and play other servers that are not eGO affiliated, and then come back to the forums and complain about how our servers don't have people. I'm by no stretch of the imagination suggesting that eGO members can ONLY play eGO servers. I am only suggesting that you can only expect an outcome that correlates with the same amount of effort you put forth. If no one plays in our servers, we will not have servers - it's that simple.

We have constantly attempted to get feedback from members on the forum on "how can we get you into our servers." We've gotten lots of great information from everyone. Unfortunately there is still some disconnect in the chain.

Thanks Doom for your constant efforts in making sure sure everyone has the ability to have their voices heard on their own time. In the same respect, thank you leadership for your constant efforts in trying to fill our servers.
