Ok...so my son has started playing TF2 and he played on his brother's account for a while. Recently, I set him up with a brand new Steam account and installed the Free-to-Play TF2 for him. I had, a while back, purchased an "Upgrade to Premium Gift" so that when he was ready, I could trade it to him and he could be a full-fledged TF2 player.

However, it seems that I can't trade anything to him. Every time I try to start a trade, it gives me the message that "This player is busy trading with someone else."

We set his Steam account up about 2 weeks ago. I had heard something about Steam Guard needing to be set up for 15 days before you can trade so I am hoping that we will be able to trade tomorrow, but in the meantime, does anyone have any ideas? Does he need to actually own something in Steam before he can trade anything - like another game or something?

By the way, his in-game name is Royal81....I'll probably invite him to join eGO at some point since our servers are the only ones I'm comfortable with him playing on. We DO have the best admins! :)

Yes we DO have the best admins, admin.

But yeah, you answered your own question. You need to have SteamGuard set up for 15 days before he can trade. If after 15 days it still doesn't work, I recommend sending Steam support an e-mail.

Well, has your son's account paid for anything?

(Someone else do correct me if I'm wrong about this.)

No, he hasn't. Does he have to pay for SOMETHING before being able to trade?

It doesn't make sense. His account may not have paid for anything, but mine did. Valve got their money either way.

No, he does not have to pay to trade. Even F2P players can trade, they just can't give items in the trade, only receive. And I know this from both the faq and experience. My sister Aki used to be F2P, and I gave her a few weapons.

Well said!

This has been happening to me all day, whenever I trade someone it just gives me the message that they are busy even if they're not

you have to buy something from the store to be able to

That's not true, i used to have a secondary account F2p and before turn it in a premium account i sent items to this account from my main account.

I Hope you can trade with your son tomorrow

Simple. Steam Guard on for 15 days to be able to trade.
Get upgrade backpack to get all of TF2's features.
Shouldn't need to buy any Steam games, that would be retarded.

And when your son joins, i can give him some hats or miscs c:
