[poll] Quick Scoping

If you think it´s a glitch why would you want to have it explained to everyone? A server full of glitchers wouldn´t make a good impression on pubbers...

Can someone please explain quick scoping? I've seen snipers sprint, scope, and kill me in 1 sec. It bugs the hell out of me, and doesn't seem right. It's a glitch. You might be able to master it, but it is, what it is. A glitch. So if everyone is for it, why don't we actually explain how its done.
[/quote1211898503]

Not a glitch. As far as I know, you press scope, then dash, then shoot. You just sprint into the scope and it just looks fast because the animation switches really fast. The time it takes to get the scopes view up is the same as just standing still and scoping (as far as I can tell). You can also no-scope with the sniper rifle, which takes less than a second and can be done repeatedly with practice.

You still need to be accurate to shoot quickly anyways. If you're going to be shooting that fast you have to be able to aim without the scope first.

Another reason snipers can look like they are shooting you really fast is lag. That goes with any class though.

It is absolutely not a glitch. Glitches are things that are fixed with later releases of the game. So far this "glitch" has been around since DoD:S has existed. People have complained about it years before this topic was made and those opinions have been and always will be vastly in the minority. Taking advantage of how the game works is not a glitch. Priming rifle nades is not a glitch just because you have to go to some extra work to do it.

To all those who think this should be against the rules, I'm sorry everyone doesn't play how you want them to. Personally, I can't stand machine guns. I think they take away enormously from the gameplay (please, please, PLEASE lets not get into argument about that, its just my opinion). When I get killed by one, I usually voice my discontent (to myself of course). What I don't do is go posting threads saying that people who play in such a way that makes life difficult for me ought to be banned for doing it. This can be an infuriating game, believe me I know. But don't tell me you don't feel awesome after going up and punching one of those quick-scoping snipers square in the face ;)

It is faster, but only slightly. The main advantage is that you can be moving rather quickly during the scoping animation and stop on a dime when its complete. And you are exactly right, when done this way, you aim without the aid of the scope, which is pretty damned hard in and of itself.

off course it's a glitch! this doen't even compare to priming a nade :). Then again, I'm still not sure how it works, or how it's done.

Regarding Base B. I'm not going to answer that, it doesn't deserve a response past what I just typed. :)

[quote1211916854=Sand_Man]
I can never get quick scoping down myself. I just have to rely on the one skill I have...dancing.
I can run around like a chicken with it's head cut off, and then make one shot while they're aiming for me.
I have seen quick-scope scripts, but it is doubtful that anyone that plays here uses them.
[/quote1211916854]
You would be suprised how many people are using these scripts. !amazed

Despite multiple attempts in this thread to explain what quick-scoping is, you appear to have tactfully avoided reading a single one of them. I will try to explain it as simply as I can. Quick scoping is the process of using the scope and sprint functions in combination to begin zooming in on a target while sprinting. Once zoomed in, the player moves at the normally slow rate of a zoomed in sniper. Basically all that is happening is a player is sprinting during the half-second scoping animation sequence so that he or she remains mobile and agile to avoid being shot. It has the added bonus of reducing the half second it takes to zoom in by a small amount. Sprinting does this for everything. It is designed to make whatever you are doing go faster, that includes reloading, switching weapons, scoping, and iron-sighting. There is absolutely no scripting involved, I don't know who started that misconception. It seems like crying "Scripts!" is the new way to cry "HAX!" Anyone can do it without any editing of any game files or implementing any sort of scripts. I encourage you to give it a try. Now please explain to me how utilizing the sprint feature of the game is a glitch.

If for some reason you still think its a glitch, I've composed this handy list of facts:

1. Valve has released dozens of patches and updates to Day of Defeat:Source during its lifetime. Not one attempted to fix this so-called problem.

2. This issue has been raised before, in these very forums. See if you can guess what the result was.

3. There is absolutely no way to enforce a "no quick-scoping" rule.

Meeting adjourned, case dismissed, additional cliche saying meaning argument over. Get over it or make your own server and try to enforce it.

omg, how is this thread still going.....................

Fry has explained this like three times now, do people read all the posts?

[quote1211923977=CaPkInG OG]
off course it's a glitch! this doen't even compare to priming a nade...
[/quote1211923977]

........................... shooting a rifle nade into the ground just so you can pick it up and throw it? That doesn't make sense, so I guess it's a glitch. Let's go and look for everyone throwing rifle nades and kick them. Is that what you're saying? Wait, everyone throws rifle nades, but only a few people use quickscoping so let's just call quickscoping a glitch and go after them because they always kill me?

If you call quickscoping a glitch, y'know what? you might as well get rid of rifle-grenade-pick-up, rifle-grenade jump-throw, jump crouching, jump grenade-throwing, reloading up stairs, quick-ironsighting, quick-scoping, and quickswitching because all of these are "not part of the game" (And don't make me explain all these). And most people don't know the "correct term" that I am using, but I'm sure a great many of them use these in game.

Left peaking IS a glitch in the game that many people use on a daily basis with or without their knowledge. And Valve is trying to fix it in DOD:S beta (and they're not doing too well atm). There is nothing in Beta that suggest fixing any of "glitches" I have mentioned above which includes quickscoping. The fact of the matter is, quickscoping is part of the game as well as all the other "glitches" I've mentioned.

[quote1211928085=Desert Fox ]
No one ever said CAL decides whats "legal" and what's not in the game. However, CAL rules is a very nice outline to follow, and they allow quickscoping, which most people agree with. Also, if council ever said "no quickscoping allowed" how would they possibly enforce this? You can't prove anyone's quickscoping. It's ridiculous to say "no quickscoping!" in the first place, I'm just wondering how they'd enforce this if they implemented this rule.

Quickscoping isn't considered an exploit, and never has been.. if it was considered one, CAL wouldn't allow it.

i totally agree with you on this one Desert Fox.

Sad but true.

Hmmm Nice thread you are all handling it in a mature manner. Ill dabble once again. I dont think its a glitch or an exploit "it is what it is". If you notice it is a matter of perspective.

I voted yes because his explanation stated you have to tweak a script in order to quick scope (shows what I know). Based on the fact that it appears a quick scope is nothing more than a rapid key combination I would have to say it should NOT be banned.

Hell, you have to duck and jump in order to make it up on some ledges and that hardly seems natural, yet is a learned skill (although a much easier learned skill apparently).

Just my two pesos.

I wonder how it can be that the e's (who have no real admin experience on our servers) think this is a glitch while the admins, and senior admins, think this isn't.

I say case closed, you've been answered and the topic's been discussed before, what else do you want?

I also wonder why my reply in this discussion doesn't deserve a response, but leave that be for now since that's off-topic.

And for future reference, capking, it's Bas.B without e & spaces, thank you.

This quick scoping I asssure you isn't a e, admin type thing, especially since I ran a clan, and operated a server back when the orginal DOD came out when you were still in diapers. So that argument is mute. But let's let this topic die off. I'm really growing tired of it. I enjoy playing with you on the servers.. So let's agree to disagree.

ive come to the conclusion about 30 responses ago lol. I have no idea why this topic has kept going.

[quote1212011241=Alias[DAM]]
As everybody already said, it's just part of the game. It's hard to learn but train yourself in stead of annoy the hell out of yourself because you get killed by it all the time.

Or another thing, learn to be smarter then the sniper. If you know that he will pop up in the same spot all the time. Get around him and kill him up close. Never try to shoot a sniper with a Support or Assault...
[/quote1212011241]

I beg to differ, STG's shoot quite a good distance and are accurate. But don't shoot them at a sniper distance.

[/quote1212012684]

That's what intended with "never try to shoot a Sniper". I should have made the line a tad longer. Never try to shoot a Sniper at Sniperdistance." Ofcoure you can kill a Sniper from up close, that's what i also said, try to sneek up on him.

So i want to say, thanks for agreeing with me.

To add ontopic, i'm closing this thread. Fry, Desert Fox and some other guys explained, argumented all your statements with facts. So there is no more discussion, its not a glich. Remember that DoD:S is a videogame, it isn't supposed to be real-life. Therefor there is nothing to accept this and try to live with it.
