GUYS! GUYS! GUYS! I THINK I FOUND THE PROBLEM. It's the Pinion Pot o' Gold MOTD. Apparently lots of people crash when they see it. So I found a fix.

1.) Install this https://github.com/CasualX/SourceProtect

2.) Go to your HOSTS file

Windows: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
Mac: /etc/hosts

3.) Open it with notepad and put this line in.

127.0.0.1 motd.pinion.gg

4.) Create an empty html in your tf directory named textwindow_temp.html and make it read-only (this prevents the motd from being saved & loaded)

Now the Pinion MOTD can't load.

BOOM! FIXED!

Yeah, but some servers have a plugin where you can't play until you enable the HTML MOTD. This gets around that.

Plugins that do that are against pinions ToS.

E: Only if they are forcing you to view the pinion PoG page

Disabling HTML MOTD's in the "Advanced Options" of TF2 only fixes crashes that occur on the MOTD screen.

Keep in mind disabling HTML MOTD's hurts EdgeGamers' ad revenue.

This will not fix any other crashes that occur during game play, only those that occur at the MOTD screen.

So if you are not experiencing crashes at the MOTD screen please leave HTML MOTD's enabled as it helps keep EdgeGamers' servers open.

CAPS LOCK's post only is helpful for servers that use a plugin to force you to watch ads. EdgeGamers does not use this plugin.

What's a MOTD?

All I see is a blank blackboard when I enter a server.....

(This is a joke)

I usually don't go on any other servers anyways, so it doesn't matter to me :)

While this probably would work, you can disable the html motd in the advanced options. Here's a screenshot.

I had to do this because the game was crashing every time I joined. Thanks, Pinion! You would think they would want their ads to be seen instead of forcing people to disable them or not be able to play.

what's a video?

idk

Since you guys don't use the plugin that forces us to view ads that is already hurting your ad revenue.

According to this post http://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/1571kz/motd_ad_pinion_changes_effective_1st_january_2013/

Impressions Must Have a Minimum 60% Average Completion Rate or They DO NOT COUNT
BONUS: If you average a monthly completion rate of 85% or higher you get paid $2.00 per 1000 impressions. The new default minimum duration the MOTD cannot be closed is 25 seconds - or 85% of the ad. Let me repeat 25 seconds is the new DEFAULT value in the cfg. The minimum delay length you can set is 15 seconds... so if you want a delay it can be no shorter than that. I cannot blame Pinion for having to do this as they have been paying for impressions that they themselves were not even getting paid for, but for those of us who refuse to put a forced duration on the servers... there is no money left in MOTD ads for us. It sucks.

So now if any of us just load the MOTD it won't make EdgeGamers any money. The only way you guys will get credit for the ad is if we view the ad for 25 seconds. I think the plugin that forces you to watch the ad is causing people to crash. Which is why I put this up. So even if we didn't disable HTML MOTD it wouldn't make a difference in our ad revenue, unless the people supporting the server by watching ads are doing it for 25 seconds.
