Problem with CSS

I am having a problem. When ever i change game options in game Source force closes and will not restart. I have already check my config.cfg and it is not check ready only. Please help. I will not even save the changes i make. Should i create an autoexec to overwrite it?

What anti virus software do you use? CS:S is known for having issues with certain security programs. Avast antivirus and I/OBit software has compatibility issues with the game.

The reason I recommend not using anti virus's on gaming PC's.
I recommend using CCleaner and Malware Bytes Remover and defragment your HDD, .

Sounds like something in your cfg file is corrupt or invalid, but best check your AV's.

I am using Norton. I have not had issues in the past. I downloaded both pieces of software and I am running right now. I will disable Norton the next time I play CSS.
As for the AV's........what is that? I have been an avid CS'er, but i have just recently got into all the config changes you can do.

Sorry to say, Norton is one of the worst AV's out there.... Lol. Avira is good, Kaspersky is good, any others, never heard anything good about them. I don't even use an AV on my PC, and have I ever gotten a virus? Nope. I use other programs to stay clear of them that don't interfere with my games.

So, I wasnt to clear I guess. I am using a PC, keyboard/mouse input. It is the actual game CSS that crashes/closes when in game, while trying to change game settings. If I change some inputs in console it is fine. Just about every time I load CSS thru steam is needs to "validate files".

delete the clientregistry.blob file and restart Steam.

Ok, i went in valve and counter strike forders and deleted clientregistry.blob. I still get the same issue. As soon as i hit apply, CSS closes. All i am trying to do is change game settings (ie, key sets, game options, voice). Also it seems that every time that i have restarted steam and launch CSS, it does this stupid "validating files".........

Check your firewall. Disable your Anti virus software for a bit and retry it. It could be a simple issue. Or maybe your monitor doesnt support the resolution you are wanting/trying to get and its forcing the shut down. There are a lot of possibilities.

I got it i think......
1. Turn off cloud sync in Steam:settings
2. Deleted all bulls#$t .cfg's in my CSS forlder
3. Restart Steam
4. Turn cloud sync back on
5. Restart Steam and start CSS.
It re-validated the game files. I played in the event tonight and when i changed game setting all was good. I also had a corrupt "avutil-51.dll". So i downloaded a .dll fixer and now Steam seems to work better.

Thank you for all the help. You guys steered me right into finding the solution.
