This month you may notice that the eGO newsletter has been streamlined. We are taking on a new look in order to better serve the community and continue to provide you with all the news you need in a more compact, easy to read format.
Many of us stick to our own divisions and are unaware of the happenings in others. We urge you to expand your horizons and read about other games, divisions, and eGO members you may have not yet come to know or appreciate.
Perhaps you will be encouraged to try gaming with members of another division. When was the last time you joined a vent channel other than your usual rooms?
If you do not see an article regarding your division this month, fear not, we are working on covering the divisions that we missed this month, in April.

Hello EdgeGamers! For this month's Meet the Leadership article, I had the pleasure of interviewing NuclearCowboy who was recently promoted to Day of Defeat Advisor. I enjoyed my conversation with him and, as it turns out, we have similar taste in movies. Enjoy.

Q. When did you join eGO and what are some of your fondest memories as a new member?

A.: I joined eGO in December 2010. Some of my fondest memories, when I first started, came from playing on Donner late at night. Many of the regulars on there, like Skippy and Francis Yu, made the game very enjoyable. Once I discovered Ventrilo, the camaraderie that came with hanging out with everyone late at night really pulled me into what eGO is and what it stands for.

Q. I noticed on your profile you play in several other divisions in eGO. Was DoD your original division? If not, why did you switch?

A. DoD is my first and only division. I dabble in many of the other games that eGO supports, but my heart will always be with DoD. I'm not exactly sure what it is about the game that makes me like it so much more than other first person shooters out there, but DoD is definitely my favorite.

Q. Tell us about your promotion to DoD Advisor. How did you feel about your promotion, and what are your duties as an Advisor?

A. I was excited, as you would expect, but also very honored. As far as my duties, I have general duties such as managing bans, handling questions from eGO members, and providing input on how the division is run. Shortly after I became an Advisor, I started an event called Nuclear Winter. It revolves around the idea that the Axis and Allies entered into a nuclear war near the end of World War II. I change the specifics of the event each week to create a loose story line between each week's event. This has been great fun and I am looking forward to seeing how the event progresses.

Q. I have a follow up question to that: Is Nuclear Winter played on custom maps with a nuclear-ravaged landscape?

A. Currently, I host the events on maps that look wintry, or are dark. In the future, I would like to create custom maps for the event.

Q.What are some of your non-gaming hobbies?

A. I train cutting horses, ride motorcycles, and shoot rifles and pistols in competition.

Q. Very cool! What type of motorcycles do you like?

A. I like street bikes the best, but I don't currently own one. Because of this, I have been riding dirt bikes a lot.

Q. What is your favorite quote from Dr. Strangelove?

A. Major T. J. "King" Kong: "Well, boys, we got three engines out, we got more holes in us than a horse trader's mule, the radio is gone and we're leaking fuel, and if we was flying any lower why we'd need sleigh bells on this thing... but we got one little budge on them Rooskies. At this height why they might harpoon us but they dang sure ain't gonna spot us on no radar screen!"

Q. That's a good one. Who do you think is the most insane character in Dr. Strangelove and why?

A. I think that Major Kong is. He is just so country, but such a good pilot. And he takes the whole idea of nuclear war in stride.

Q. Yeah I figured it was going to be either him or Ripper. He was pretty crazy as well. Are you a fan of any other Stanley Kubrick movies?

A. Where do I even start? The Shining was just genius, Full Metal Jacket is a legendary movie, and Eyes Wide Shut was a fantastic psychological thriller.

I can agree with you there. Thank you again NuclearCowboy for taking the time to do this interview and congratulations on your promotion.

DunkinDonutss posted a suggestion in the February newsletter that the newsletter team should chat it up with a few e‘s and get their take on eGO. Well, surprise, surprise, we actually read the posts you make in the newsletter. I thought the idea had merit, so I went looking for some e’s in Ventrilo.

I was a bit surprised to learn that most of the users in the general rooms of Ventrilo did not even know what an e is. Well, it’s a public venue, and if they don’t know much about eGO, I’m hopeful that sharing our rooms may educate a few and even bring them into the fold.

Most of my conversations took place around the dinner hour in the East, so I may have been looking a little too early. Please forgive me if I missed out on your favorite division.

Panzer35 joined eGO in the beginning of February. He prefers to play Battlefield and enjoys the people he sees on our servers and their teamwork in-game; In his words they are “good guys”. He also appreciates the fact that he can almost always find an Admin when there is trouble. He tracked me down later to tell me that when his eGO application was accepted, the folks in the Personnel Service Center made him feel very welcome. PSC rules!

Over in the Call of Duty channel I found ziLe chatting with Wenchie, a pub who has not joined but seems to enjoy hanging out with us. ziLe joined us in January and has been playing Call of Duty for five years. When he found our servers, he enjoyed playing with the people and eventually decided to apply.

Woodhouse’ joined up on Valentine’s day. He plays Counter-Strike and favors Dust2. I also spoke to Dan Hunter who started out in MineCraft and received a field promotion to G last November. At that time he had only been with us for about two months. So, chin up e’s, it does happen. Dan now plays Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2. When asked what he’d like to see changed about eGO, he suggested we lighten up on our foul language policies. Here’s where I put on my Advisor hat and give some sage advice. If you want to use foul language, keep it in the R rated Vent rooms, that’s what they are there for. Alternatively, you may cuss all you want, just make sure not to key your mic in-game or in a non-R-rated vent channel.

Down in the MineCraft room I spoke with icydud who has been with us a little more than a month. He mainly plays MineCraft and League of Legends and enjoys participating in eGO's divisional events. He also notes that the servers are a bit laggy on the Canadian side of the border. Must be that harsh sub-zero air!

I hope you enjoyed seeing what our e’s have to say. Just remember, we do read (and heed) your comments.

Thanks Dunkin.

We all have our favorite games that we spend far too many hours playing. But, like most things in life, it's important to diversify. That's why I am bringing you a quick guide to the Counter Strike: Source (CS:S) maps that we host.

On any of the servers, you can choose between being a terrorist (T) or a counter-terrorist (CT). Both sides have similar weapons, but there are some weapons that are specific to each team. The most popular guns are the Maverick M4A1 rifle and Night Hawk (Desert Eagle in real life) pistol for the counter-terrorists. The CV-47 (AK 47 in real life) and Night Hawk are popular guns for the terrorist side. However, the Scout sniper, M249 (Para), and shotguns are also favored.

Our most popular server is the 24/7 Dust2 map (IP: 174.36.42.204:27015). It features 48 player slots for fast paced 24 on 24 action. If you play as a counter terrorism unit, the goal of this map is to defend the two designated bomb sites from the terrorists. If you play on the terrorist side, you are trying to get the bomb carrier safely to one of the two bomb targets.

Another popular server is our 24/7 Italy map (IP: 184.173.227.127:27015). This 40 player map features a hostage rescue objective. As CTs, it is your job to rescue four hostages being held on the far side the map and escort them back to your spawn. The Ts are there to stop you; sniping at you from long hall, or setting up a para rush in the apartments. There are plenty of places to hide and routes to take to complete your objective.

Office 24/7 (IP: 174.36.42.205:27015) features a 40-person map that is also a hostage rescue scenario. As a T, you may camp, with your team, in the office where the hostages are and lob grenades, flash bangs, and smoke bombs into the paper room. As a CT, you may start off by sniping from the spawn hall and then rush the long hall, cutting down anything in your path.

Can't get enough of school? High school 24/7 (IP: 184.173.227.124:27015) offers 36 players a chance to roam the halls. Just don't be late when it comes to planting the bomb as a T or defusing it as a CT. You can run across a courtyard, look out the windows of a 2nd story classroom, or dash up and down the stairs on this map.

A new addition to our servers is a 24/7 Deathmatch map (IP: 184.173.227.126:27015). The maps rotate through Dust2, Chateau, Militia, and Assault. Deathmatch is a playing style where you don't worry about objectives, just about having fun killing and being killed. Your kill-death ratio (kdr) is not effected when on this map. One of the advantages of playing here is that you don't have any downtime between dying and respawning. You also can have your choice of guns, or have a completely different gun every time you respawn. This can allow newer players a chance to try out guns to see what they want to use on another server.

Last, but not least, is the Jail server (IP: 184.173.227.125:27015). This server is unique in that the T side has to follow the directions given to them by a warden on the CT side. Failure to comply will be met with a quick death by a CT guard. However, Ts may rebel against the CT forces and try to knife them. The warden will give Ts mini contests to complete, but be aware, if you are unable to complete the objective or finish first, you will be killed. Jail has many maps to choose from, with different mini contests and layouts. Some of the maps have even been built by our very own eGO members.

We hope to see you trying out our servers. Who knows, maybe you will find a new favorite.

In order for me to provide the best information possible I decided to consult Megs A Tagger, one of the Day of Defeat Advisors. Thanks Meg.

DoD Leadership has expressed their thanks for Boyle's hard work during his long tenure as a DoD Advisor. He has recently stepped down to better focus on real life. Be sure to wish him the best as the future progresses for him. I would bet dollars to donuts that we will still be seeing him on the DoD servers.

Also, please stop by the Day of Defeat Ventrilo channels and congratulate NuclearCowboy on his recent promotion to the leadership team, or shoot him a PM. Be sure to read DoomTree's interview in this newsletter and learn how "Nuke" has already contributed as an Advisor.

Realism Campaign 9 recently ended with the Axis Edelweiss Division changing history by winning a victory over the Allied Screaming Eagles. It was a close battle, remaining undecided until the final week. Our very own wewo led the charge as the CINC for the Nazis. He says it would not have been possible without the assistance of Annihilator and Anti, the balance of the Axis command staff, who organized the Axis team and let Lungbuster4417 loose on the Allies. Congratulations to Mavwreck and his staff for putting up a valiant effort, but were unable to prevent history from being changed. Please be sure to thank Blue Stealth for coordinating and organizing the Realism campaign, as well as the TA staff for this campaign, Lungbuster4417, Nuclear Cowboy, and Q-Tip. Be sure to prepare for Campaign 10 by participating in the weekly realism events.

Now, if you are a fan of events like I am, the event schedule is as follows:
Tuesday - Beacon Tag/Hardcore Rush
Wednesday - Nuclear Winter
Thursday - Wild Card
Saturday - Regular Realism
For more information on your division's events, make sure to check the calendar at the bottom of the forums page and the discussion section of your division.

If you have been recently promoted and you still don't have your admin training under way, there is no need to stress. The DoD division has six capable admin trainers just itching to train you, and get you on your way to becoming a successful admin. All admins are expected to take the courses and attendance will earn you a nice medal.

You can certainly tell that I have left no stone unturned when I went searching for information. Even with half [editor's note - it was closer to most] of the Day of Defeat community having a blast owning me at their own game.

Some final information for you to keep in mind:
  • All servers are in the top 100 with 4 of them in the top 50.
  • DoD needs your support on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, as they focus on getting their server ranks higher, especially on Kalt and Anzio.

Try-outs for the Competitive Team are underway. For more information follow these links:
Requirements can be found here.
Competitive Team overview can be found here.
Wave 1 will start on March 3 @ 9PM ET
Wave 2 will start on March 10 @ 6PM ET

Well would you look at that, everyone in this game is made up of squares. Does this mean I am in the Minecraft division? Yes this reporter has stumbled into the realm of squares and angles. Well, at least I should make it out alive, in one (square) piece and with a story to report.

What better way to start off than to announce some information about the events this division has to offer.

Minecraft events schedule:
Monday - Virus
Tuesday - Death pit + Breakaway
Wednesday - Mastermind *Vent required*
Thursday - PVP Night
Friday - Vote Night *Vent required*
Saturday - PVP + Level Fight
Sunday - Race night / Test night
All events commence at 8:00 pm ET. Please attend as many of these as possible. Fun is guaranteed.

Admin scenarios have been reformatted. They are now placed in the actual game for players to look at, rather than being described in the forums. Next, all admins can post their answers to a Goggle doc form. All admin scenarios will be posted every two weeks.

Now, if you feel uncomfortable admining on the server, fret no longer. The Minecraft division has a cadre of admin trainers who are more than willing to assist new members of the Minecraft division with learning to admin like a superstar.

Here is a list of the current and active AT members for the division:

Witch_Doctor - AT advisor
Oey192
LSSniper
Nailer134
Gypsy

Feel free to contact them if you desire admin training or have an admin question.

Important Division Notes:

  • The server is a modded Vanilla server - anti-grief plugins, no worry about losing your items/stuff and a PvP arena for those interested in PvP.
  • All available plugins for the server are found in the Minecraft discussion forums as a sticky.
  • The EC team is looking for O's interested in running events.
  • A creative team is open to those interested.
  • Currently the server is running 1.4.7, but will upgrade in March with the 1.5 update.

If the information above has got you thinking of joining the eGO Minecraft server, but still are unsure of how to play, then feel free to give this guide, I discovered here, a look over.

I would like to thank Minecraft Advisor Witch_Doctor for providing the information above.

Loving the introduction of more, entertaining, articles, like the chatting with e's, MTLs, and Hexi's outburst! Makes for a much more enjoyable read rather than random info on servers and events, which is available anyway.

Thanks Guys!
