"hl2.exe" message

Has anyone been getting the dreaded "hl2.exe has stopped working" message lately? For at least the past week, its been popping up too much. I don't know if a recent update of something like that may have screwed something up, but I usually get this message on Donner or Ava.

I get it too. It usually doesn't appear if I restart Steam.

I would think it has something to do with your drivers, i.e they are not up to date.

I got it recently once after playing for a long time.

Try updating your video drivers, don't use any inherent update utility, rather, download from the site.

also do not forget to verify your game cache. This helps sometimes
