- run dxdiag.exe, to be sure your Mobo model It will be listed as System Manufacture & system model, you'll also see you Bios version

To open the DirectX Diagnostics Tool, proceed as follows:

From the Windows Taskbar, click on Start and select Run. (In Vista, press the Windows Logo-Key + R)

In the Open: field, type DXDIAG. Click on OK or press the Enter key on your keyboard. The program will begin to gather information about your system and the Diagnostics Tool will open with the System tab in the foreground.

NOTE: If your system is unable to locate a copy of DXDIAG , it most likely means that a recent version of DirectX is not installed on your computer. You may download a recent version of DirectX from the Microsoft web-site at the following address:

Hopefully one last thing, I cannot find that motherboard you mentioned with the free ram anywere?

I edited my post to include the link, which I forgot (sorry) Same for the RAM.

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer
Layman terms, the OS disc comes from the original manufacturer (Microsoft). Typically when you buy an OS, it will be OEM (builders usually don't buy Retail)

@Puke-Shot At this stage, I honestly want to say smith isn't going to need to know the mobo model since he's going to be buying a new one...

Side note: This has been the most involved buying thread for me in a long time.

And that case looks fine too; it's from Lian-Li which have a good reputation for making cases.

To be honest, Puke-N-Snot, when theyre typing out a post as late as theyre doing it, you're gonna expect some mistakes. Dont take it to heart; im sure they mean well. Ill admit that its early in the mornin for me & I had to look extra close at the name to make sure not to misspell it myself.

Anyways, is there anything else the community can do to help you get that old pc back up n running? Im sorry, but I feel bad that I havent really read all of the complete thread (which wont be hard for me to check up).

Ok, just so ya know smiths11, OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer. If you order an OEM Windows 7 Home Premium (for example), it wont come in the flashy windows style box that you're used to seeing in the stores. Instead itll come in a white cardboard sleeve w/ a plastic dvd case inside of that, which entail will have the 64-bit OS (if you're still a gamer). Keep in mind that 32-bit OS is for memory 3.5gb or less (I think those stats have been updated tho, cant remember however).

Smart man. Get as much $$ set aside that way its better to just do a complete new build! Im really considering this in the future (maybe 2 years down the line, but we shall see).
