Class limits and the average pub.

Can we all take a moment to think candidly about the implementation of class limits in the servers? Nobody likes to be on a team of 6 Snipers, or play against a team of 4 Engineers.

I think we can all consider EdgeGaming Servers a notch above the rest, but there is one superseding problem that plagues most pubs, including our own, class stacking. Having 4 heavies accompanied by 4 medics is a little ridiculous for the quality of the our servers.

We really need to contemplate class limits and it's benefits if we want to have even more enjoyable servers.

It all depends on the team, if they think that going all heavies would be the most fun for them to do on our servers then let them. It might get rid of people on the server but we have dedicated people that will definitely fill them back up again in no time...

So no, I don't think there should be class limits on any server

Yes, but fun for the all Heavy team means a complete nightmare and "rage-quit-fest" that completely empties servers for a good 2 hours. Even worse is if your team consists of mostly Spies and Snipers.

If, let's say, I coordinated 6 friends to only run Heavy-Medic combos all day, yes it would be fun for us, but the other team would find it cheap and a little frustrating. And you might say "Yes, but auto balance should fix that", which leads the argument that auto balance is a very roundabout and complex solution to a very simple problem.

"Adapt and Overcome" is a phrase that many players do not understand nor implement during gameplay.

Overcoming 7 Engineers with Wranglers and PyBros at their side is a lesson in futility, not adaptability. Overcoming 5 Heavies with Medics planted firmly behind them pushing a cart is no easy task. Adapting to 3 Dead Ringers Spies is no walk in the park. Having 6 Snipers on your team is very hard to "overcome and adapt" to even if one or two have decent aim.

It's like saying "Well the lineman have gone out to lunch today, no blocking! But we do have an abundance of receivers and safetys on the field. I think we can 'overcome and adapt' to that!" Also the other team is entirely made up of linebackers and tight ends. Have fun.

There are certainly pros and cons to this sort idea; sometimes I feel like a broken record telling my teammates that we don't need 4 spies and 3 snipers. It isn't fun and most of the time such selfish players doom the team to ignominious defeat.

That being said, I know I would hate it if I were kept from playing pyro or soldier on one of our servers. I know I wouldn't likely come back if I knew that some goofball trolldier would keep me from being the class I wanted to play.

Perhaps we could implement class limits on a single server as an experiment and see how it goes . . . if the server drops in the rankings we can always get rid of it.

The idea of class limits has been tossed around quite a bit. Honestly, if we implement class limits I'll lose a large amount of respect for those who got it passed. I've played a lot of tf2 and overcame some awful situations.

Saying that it is a problem is absurd. No defense is unbreakable and no offense is unstoppable.

I don't like playing without a challenge anyways.

So let me point something out here.

I can get that things become a rage-fest in a pub when the other team is absolutely wrecking you by abusing the use of a certain class.

>implying that a team of engineers can't cover every hole in their defense

When the game's not fun anymore, you can just leave. No one's gonna stop you. Go find a different server and have fun there.

Pubs were meant for people to just fool around and have fun. Just let those 8 heavies have their fun, and you can have your own fun trying to stop em. If it's not fun, you can go elsewhere. A serious, even match-up of teams is meant for competitive. Go play a lobby or something.

A few years ago when I was looking for a new home after my favorite 2fort server shut down, I would always leave whenever I found out that I couldn't select a class because there were 3 other incompetent people playing that class. That's one of the reasons I liked playing on eGO: no matter how many incompetent players there were, I could always choose the class that I'd be able to do the best as.

Another thing: we don't have competitive servers. No class limits, random crits... The servers aren't meant to be for competition, they're there to allow as many people as possible to enjoy the game, and the majority of pubs don't like class limits. No enjoyment = no pubs = empty servers

Wronskain brings up a good point why have competitive restrictions for non competitive servers?

That being said why don't we have competitive servers?

We have the League server. Which is used for scrims and such. And the event server might be used during some kind of competitive event.

You are all making good points and I can see now that class limits would probably be a more of a hindrance than a benefit. I'm actually glad more high ranking people came out to discuss this because it has been bothering me for no short amount of time. Good to see others' perspectives on it.

A scramble usually fixes an overpowered team

I hate servers with 3 players per class limit. Or any limit. Don't do this, I'll lose a lot of respect.

inb4 there's never enough people who vote for a scramble

The plugin bases the amount of required sausage off the amount of players. most people though, are happy to keep playing, even when they are losing. Or they dont know about sausage.
