Hardest Class

Engineer

Now may think its easy as all you do is place down a sentry and watch it get kills.
For I say you only have really played Engie on Valve servers as I'm talking about playing as a good Engie.

You know what I'm talking about that one who knows all the places on the map and can position his buildings just right where the enemy team has to really work together to get past.

It takes a lot of time to get to that level of Engie'ing and you have to learn how to not only understand the different aspects of your building but how to read the players on your enemy team.

A level 3 can kill about anything that comes across it but goes down easily due to all the demo's on the team. Switch to gunslinger and use mini as an indicator for approaching enemy and finish them off yourself while planning how to evade other opponents and still defend the point.

Well, let me throw this out there then. Everything changes with context and team. Medic is pretty easy when you're just following someone and avoiding damage and checking every once in a while for spies. But, when you're thrown into a competitive setting with real necessity for teamwork and communication, medic takes just as much thinking and game sense, etc. etc. Basically, "hardest" depends on the situation. And just in general, it's gonna be the social aspects that really raise skill curves n WHATEVs - and every class can be social. Spidey is just harder to kill when Kiririn is around, whether she's medic or not.

I assume you mean as opposed to puff'n'sting or backburner playstyles? As a primary flamethrower user, I just laugh it off when people whine about their fatal third degree burns. The differences between puff'n'sting and vanilla flamethrower is similar to the DH and stock launcher. One has good dps v. solitary targets, and the other allows you to harass/destroy multiple foes at once.

Haha ok, I agree. No more need be said.

I think many of you may be missing the point. I'm pretty sure the OP meant the hardest to start, not the hardest to learn. I'm here seeing all of you talking about learning curves, wishing I could play scout.

Or, maybe we've all missed the point and the OP meant the hardest class to play personally for each individual.

Or maybe I could be just plain wrong.

tl;dr OP, please specify.

Spy is definitely hardest. For me, sniper comes in close behind but that's because I can't aim to save the human race from extinction…

It's got to be spy just because of how many awful, terrible, useless spies are kicking around. The skill ceiling for soldier may be equally insanely high but average soldiers can still contribute. "Average" spies are basically a man disadvantage for their team.

Spies is the hardest class to start off with. There's plenty of reasons why. Spy , unlike most classes has to do multiple things at once. They got to trick there enemy , Get behind there enemy without anyone else getting suspicious of them. , they got to beware of pyro's if they don't there pretty much dead. Unlike any other class in the game the spy requires you to use your mind and think of how your gonna proceed this is why most spies do not help there team win as they don't think enough on how there going to do there thing.

Now if we take a class like the pyro it's difficulty is pretty low when you start off all you do is W+M1 all day and you get kill's , but once you learn how to play pyro the difficulty get's higher as you want to learn the techniques. That's why spy is so much harder as you can't just jump in like you can with the pyro.

The next class that is close to the spies difficulty is the scouts. Why? Because you must learn how to use your high speed's and be very mobile. If you stop for one second your gonna die. If you can master scout you'll be feared by the enemy team a good example of a good scout is VP.

Each class has it's difficulty's but spy is the only class witch it is very difficult to use when you start off and is the only class that you can learn so much new things even after playing it for 100's of hours as I explained above

Now this is my opinion but am certain that am not the only one who thinks this, If you disagree please tell me why.

Scout.
It's aiming at high speeds make it hell for you to learn, make it hell for your victims.
Next would be soldier
Rocket Jumping, Pogo-ing Etc.
Then Spy/Engie
Engie needs to know what the spys act and spys need to know how the engie will react.
Engies will also need to know sentry placement, telie placement and dispenser placement
Heavy
pro heavys(yes there's such a thing) have to know how to aim to kill scouts jumping around

Glad to see the spy getting some appreciation =D

It's frustrating how easily I can dominate good spies as pyro, even though I only have like 30 hours.

Definitely spy. The problem with spies is that they are really easy to figure out. I cant remember the last time i fell for a trick stab. Once you know how to keep a spy away from you and check your back frequently, spies lose there edge. Playing spy can be a real pain if you're playing with people who know how to deal with all your tricks and deception. Along with this, trick stabs take a lot of practice and perfection. Spies have a distinct disadvantage when you're playing with good players and that makes them the hardest.
Second hardest is probably the pryo, for similar reasons.

I've always had the toughest time with spy and demo. Spy requires a more "elegant" play style. Demo takes a lot of practice with the sticky nades to become truly evil.

Conversely I don't think any two characters can turn a game faster than an excellent spy and/or demo player.

Personally, I'll stick with medic all the way! "Oops! That was not medicine..."

Cheers!

Spy probably has the highest skill floor, which seems to be what most of you have taken "hardest" to mean here. Nowhere near the highest skill ceiling though.

Spy,Scout, Solider
A spy can be difficult because you are against smart people, Scout is difficult because you need to dodge and do the damage. The solider...just learn to rocket jump and your pretty good with him.

But stickies are easy to use. It's that Grenade Launcher that makes it tough to handle Demo, especially with those direct hits from them. Master the direct hit with the pills, and you will dominate the tf2 world

If you can get good with midair shots and general direct hits with the demo it's the most dominant class.

I have to agree with Rd and Headhunter. I practiced with nades for awhile, and it feels so good to pop scouts out of midair ^^

Generally each class has it's ups and downs so there's no real definition of a "hard class". Depending on your play style will completely change which classes are hard and which are easy, so I'm just gonna name every classes downside which makes it hard

Scout: The humble scout is burdened with low health. Though big mobility and high damage at close range, if hit 2 times by almost any class it will die instantaneously.

Soldier: A powerhouse, though fairly slow. It is difficult to regret from battle when almost every class is faster than you. Also if rocket jumping, unless you are fairly good at it, it can be a great burden if you don't know how and keep trying to...just imagine practicing rocket jumping while a heavy with then brass beast is standing next to you.... Heavy>noob rocket jumper

Pyro: . . . Can't really think of a downside except for water battles. When in water face it, your main weapon is useless so you must primarily rely on your shotgun ( if using one) and Melee. FIX [NetherApprentice] The pyro's counter is the heavy which can lead to a quick easy kill when you try to get close to him to burn his sandvich to a crisp.

Demoman: Ah the demoman...able to destroy buildings in a matter of 3 stickies max, it happenes to be a class where most air blasting occurs for smart pyros. Also due to grenades not explodig instantaneously if missed (stock) any class can easily move away from it causing no real damage.

Heavy: The heavy is as well very slow so low mobility which is often why they are easily back stabbed by spies. The minigun also takes time to spin up which is that small gap of time between you and the sight of your enemy falling to the ground

Engineer: the engineer is terrible when in a firefight which is why they often rely on their sentries. The sentry though can easily be sapped or destroyed by and smart TF2 player which can lead to rage and eventually crying in your bedroom all alone.

Medic: Probably the best support class there is, but an all out terrible choice for battle. The medic is
meant to heal other classes and not go all out rage medic on other classes, which means if caught alone it will suck for you. Also a distinctive target for spies due to the high ammount of support they give

Sniper: the sniper is also one of the more focused on targets of spies. When scoped though a shot can cause great damage, it lowers peripheral vision greatly so you'd never notice if someone walked right next to you or behind you leading to an easy kill

Spy: oh spy...the spy must be one of the more difficult classes to play due to the high ammount of spy checkers these days. It's hard to get away with a disguise since you seem so obvious when your just following your target for a while. Also with the ammount of pressure it just adds to the difficulty.

...so yea Spy definitely, if you read all of this... I slap you with glee.
