iOS Games

So I was wondering if and how many other people have any of Apple's products and play games on them. Another thing I was wondering was what sort of games you play. So post here whatever you feel relevant, tell us what you play, do you like it and why?

Personally I enjoy playing games like Order & Chaos Online or GTA III and GTA Vice City that Rockstar has ported from PC to iOS.

Order & Chaos is a fun little MMO that is currently free and you only pay if you want to get things done quicker. Basically just like any other free game it has micro transactions however they do not affect your game much early on. You are guaranteed to have hours of fun while waiting at an airport, going on the bus or any other time you don't have your PC but have internet connection,

GTA I don't have to introduce since I'm sure every one here knows the franchise. The two parts that Rockstar has ported to iOS are exactly the same as on PC, the only difference being controls. I actually had a blast going again through missions I once did ten years ago, good old times... Rockstar usually has some sales every now and then so you can grab the game for $0.99 once in a while, and I strongly suggest you do.

It's funny that I bought my iPad for functionality with volunteer work that I do, and while I certainly do use it exactly for that, it's humorous to me how many games have ended up on it, with my best attempts to keep that at a minimum.

I will now list the games on my iPad along with a one sentence review of each. You'll notice a reoccurring board game theme. In no particular order:

Elder Sign Omens: Great adaptation of a great co-op dice rolling game
Small World: Incredible Board game, very fun as a 2 player iOS game with more options coming soon.
Ticket to Ride: Another great fun board game
Civil War: A great turn-based game, light strategy style.
Ascension: The Deck Building Card Game, great port of it.
Zombie Dice: Heheh. Someone made a quick buck with this excellent port of the dice game.
Spy vs. Spy: A remake of the original Apple II computer game. Fantastic!
Galaxy on Fire 2: Picked up when it was free. It's alright.
4 Pics 1 Word: My sister tuned me into this goofy little time consumer.
GTA Vice City: Controls take some getting used to, but great port of my favorite GTA game.
Midway Arcade: Got it for nostalgia. Arch Rivals, Joust, Gauntlet, Spy Hunter
He-Man: THE MOST POWERFUL APP IN THE UNIVSERSE! Seriously this platformer is great!

and saving the best for last:

Spaceteam: If you have friends with iPads, you NEED to get this free game and play it together. An excellent party game for 2-4. By far the best game I've put on my iPad.

I'm currently waiting for Ares Games to finish work on their board game "Wings of Glory," which I am very excited about. It's a great game and if the interface is done well it will be awesome.

^ I've played Space Team! Its so fun, need good communication, its funny seeing people shouting at each other to turn or flick the buttons.

@Spitfire: I see you really like dice and board games. My father is a board game maniac, you'd probably get along well Also, if you have time you should try Memoir 44. It's not on iPad but it's a board game that you can also play online on PC. First couple rounds are free, so give it a try
I've got Ticket to Ride onmah iPad too, so we can play some time if you want. I also wanted to try Space team but from all my friends I'm unfortunately the only one with an iPad and willing to buy games.

@Mush I might check out Into the Dead, seems interesting.


Continuing my game rant...

Galaxy on Fire 2, as mentioned by Spitfire'd. I really enjoyed the game from the very beginning to the very end. I bought the HD verion when it was on a discount and played it nonstop till I finished the core game. After that came two expansions, which I also liked very much. I've already unlocked all achievements and am currently working on collecting ALL the ships that are in the game. Loads of fun.

I've been meaning to start a discussion in Off-Topic about board gaming, and it's funny that you mention Memoir '44. It currently is my favorite board game. I have the base game and the Eastern Front expansion, as well as a few expansions that are merely visual additions to the game, but I love them none the less and am all about the visual flair. I'll post pictures sometime too, the miniatures are very cool looking!

I also have played it online a bit. The Pegasus Bridge and Juno Bridge scenarios are always free. The other ones are 2 or 3 "gold bars" and you start with 50, then buy more when you want them.

Yes I do love my board games, have quite a few. They make great ports to the iPad, because they take away a lot of the setup time. I don't like the calculated luck, I'd rather roll dice myself, but most of the board games are excellent ports of the originals. Catan and Carcassone are two more that I hear many good things about.

I play the following games on both my iPhone and iPad

(games listed in no particular order)

Temple Run - run away from demon monkeys, dodging various obstacles
Temple Run 2 - see Temple Run
Defend Your Castle - castle defense game where large numbers of enemies run at your castle and you have to fling them
Cartoon Wars - like Defend your castle, only you send out minions to defend it instead of flinging enemies
Pew Pew - like Geometry wars
Lux Touch - like Risk, but computerized (computer automatically does all dice rolls hidden from player, etc)
Tap Tap Revenge (mostly version 2, sometimes version 3 and 4) - like Guitar Hero but for fingers

Another game I enjoyed quite much is Infinity Blade and Infinity Blade II. While the first one was just a small glimpse of what you can do with the Quake engine on an iPad Infinity Blade II fully unleashed its potential. This hack n' slash game is easy, yet very very addictive. Altho it may seem repetative at times, the amount of weapons, gems and different skills makes up for everything. Great game definitely worth buying!

Infinity blade 1 and 2: alright gets boring after a bit stunning graphics

Air surpremacy: the game is very addictive and also has some of the best graphics i have ever seen

Need for speed hot pursuit: booring

Need for speed most wanted: still booring
Subway surfer: alright

Angry birds: boring

Hill climb: alright

Tower defense: boring

I played The Walking Dead game, people say its boring but i disagree, i feel like controlling an episode of the walking dead. You get the first episode free, but the other 4 you have to pay. The game is exactly the same as the PC version, only it fits on a smaller screen and you use fingers.

iOS adaptation of the popular board game Eclipse just went live in the app store yesterday. This is a phenomenal board game in the 4x genre and I have had a blast learning and playing it. 1-6 players with AI, pass n play or online multi player. Worth checking out if you're into strategy board games on the iPad.

Newly released yesterday, Sid Meier's Ace Patrol is a turn-based World War I air combat game.

It's free and will let you play a full campaign with 4 pilots before asking you to buy more stuff to continue. All kinds of In-App Purchases go along with this free game, including more campaigns, ace skins, but honestly I'll probably just get the campaign bundle, which gives you campaigns for each of the major 4 countries (France, England, Germany, USA).

Lots of replayability here, and when multi player is fixed it will be even better!

Amazing Indie Game Frozen Synapse has also made its way into the App store. If you already own it on PC, you can buy the app and sign in with your account and link the app with the game. AKA you can start a multi player match on your PC, log off, play a few turns later on your iPad, you get the idea.

This game was great when it came out, the iOS interface is incredible, it feels like the game was designed to be on iPad this whole time. Well worth the purchase!

Freddiew did a group gaming session with a bunch of people for Spaceteam, it looked pretty cool.

I saw Hay Day mentioned, that's a great Farming game to those that like Farmville but aren't addicts.

Clash of the Clans has been getting really big, I'll have to consider it.
