eGO Beginner Competitive Team

So, as we were having small talk in one of our TF2 servers, hEY and I thought of an interesting concept.

This concept is The eGO Beginner's Competitive Team

We were thinking of creating a team that would still be played on a competitive level, such as reaching tournaments and league plays, but would focus more on "beginners" to competitive play, like those who haven't played TF2 competitively before and would like to try it out without going through the pressure of just jumping in and preforming top notch, not knowing what to expect.

So, in short, we would be creating a team that is still on a competitive level, but without having it feel so "competitive", and maybe so that the players who enjoyed and learned from the experience will take it to a different team if they want to keep moving on.

We thought of the concept, and if you guys wanted to back it up, feedback would be much appreciated, as we would need support, people with more experience than us, advisers, and the will of other members to join.

Thanks,
-Trauma-

I think I tossed this around (..at) a few people already. It's really more of an idea born out of the bad experiences some of us have with being nubs on lobbies and stuff. I don't hold any illusions about actually doing well competitively, but it'd be cool if we could get an advisor or two to kinda lead us through the format and introduce people to playing casual lobbies with a team who AREN'T (*gasp*) going to yell at us for being the worst TF2 players the game has ever known.

I'm thinking this to be more of a casual thing. But, if someone thinks that this could actually be done with eGO sanction, then that'd.. be cool.. ya know.

If you're looking for direction on how to organize a team for competitive play and some of the places you want to go to get into the competitive scene, you may always consult with PepperRabbit, Wilson, or me. At this juncture, I hesitate to put the imprimatur of the clan name on a new team, but we can work on the details as soon as we see what sort of support exists for this.

Yeah, hEY said it alot better than I did. It's more of a casual thing to get those (like us) who aren't very familiar with the whole "real team" concept into the more competitive scene for later on.

You all need to also put into consideration if you do decide to create this team that it is much more difficult to manage or keep consistent than you would think. It took a good 2-3 seasons for our current Highlander team to find enough people that would actually show up for scheduled matches and now more so practices. There are always the players that want to do this and say they would do it, but in the long run there are a select few who can actually designate the time.

This reminds me of the eGO-A group on World of Tanks if any of you play that game. But as Wilson has stated it would be extremely difficult to have people even show up. I mean if you can schedule a time that EVERYONE can be there, that would be awesome :D

Yea, it might just be a sort of lobby type deal. Schedule days and times, and see who shows up. And if it doesn't work.. then.. haha not sure. But I'm aware that actually setting something up and holding people accountable to online gaming is both ironic and difficult to do. At this stage, it's really more of a sounding out of the idea and seeing if anyone would even be interested in playing together

Right now, this idea is being looked at fro a more casual perspective. Possibly just finding other members who are interested in joining this, getting a few advisers with experience to help and overlook this, and perhaps scheduling "practices" that are convenient for possibly everyone. From here it would be more of a casual preparation for competitive play for those individuals in the future, rather than going in and competing as a team in tournaments. I understand this sort of contradicts my first post, but it seems more practical this way.

It's an idea with merit & I've always been surprised that the eGo competitive team hasn't done more of a reach out to walk through other whom have a interest.

You don't say whether your talking 6v6 or HL. But places I've found to work on comp play are
#tf2mix http://steamcommunity.com/groups/tf2mix is more "relaxed or forgiving", same with Crit-Fail PUG & FaiLeague http://steamcommunity.com/groups/critfail

And for sure check out TeamFortress 6v6 newbie mix http://steamcommunity.com/groups/na6v6newbiemix http://teamfortress.tv/articles/view...ive-tf2-part-1. Events every Saturday night & a great place to learn & get coached on 6v6 play (still useful for HL).

This would be great for getting people into the competitive "groove" as it were. I am quite literally always free(no job and all that fun stuff) so I would interested in participating and helping schedule things etc, when need be!

Now THIS was what I was looking for, I'd love to come to as many practices as I can! I don't do anything all day anyways, besides school.

Thank you for the links! c:

Personally I'd like to do HL, but what happens is all up to the people that participate. That is, if this even gets off the ground.

I've been looking to play competitively (main reason why I joined eGO). The competitive team is full, yet you guys say not everyone shows up to practice or matches.

There is so much interest for competition, why don't we have a B-team that practices with the A-team so both parties? A tiered structure would allow B players to improve and show their stuff. I'm sure that there are some players in eGO with great potential that are not competing.

I don't understand why the team doesn't allow a new player the chance to fight for a spot on the team.

Seems like a good plan for beginners. I haven't played that much HL competitive but I know what you mean when people expect you to be top notch. It really is good for new players to competitive, but as said above you may have more work than expected

We could host tournaments for the chance to go represent eGO in competitive, we could also have group teachings where some of the pros from our division come teach the rest of us some tricks and strategies.
If the whole competitive thing doesn't get off the ground then at the very least it would be nice to have group training days where we teach people things they want to learn about TF2, rocket jumping, pyro sentry edging, stair stabs, and other things that make players go "woah!".

Back when we had a bunch of people who wanted to play competitive, we had a Team A and a Team B. The problem was Team B was complaining that Team A had all the good players and they wanted to be on Team A. They just took the best people then and put them together on the one team if I remember right.

Honestly that sounds like something you could go to the ECs with/dropbox. Sounds interesting and I fully support your ideas haha. I think somebody.. Jake Emberwolf iirc, tried to just do a tournament/random team fights that didn't really work out logistically. But training/classes and tournaments are both great ideas, I'd love to see someone develop those further.

Haha, I have to reiterate, in the original in-my-head incarnation, I was honestly just asking if any of you guys wanted to casually play non-serious comp tf2 games together. But, I also think it'd be cool if something like what trauma and headhunter were kinda going toward with a comp B team (Ha.. composition B.. ha) or an actual competitive team happened. If you guys think that this idea would make more sense with actual practices and stuff like that, I'm totally down to see how schedules and planning work out and give it a try.

Feel free to PM me or reply here if you're interested in this idea (in any way), and I can put down your names, and I'll get back to you guys in little bit and see where this idea could go. SORRY for how unorganized this is, but if you guys are serious, then we can be too :p

I'll agree with 'ya HeadHunter, was also one of the reason I joined eGO. I'd have at least expected (after my several attempts to get some real info from them, even made a similar dropbox suggestion back on 3/11/13 but it went no where)someone to have made some type of real effort reached out but ...

As far "competitive play" goes & I'm sure those whom have far more competitive play under their belts can confirm. It's nothing at all like PUB's !
And there are things you need to know before ever stepping into a PUG, Such as the maps & the call outs (locations for each section) http://teamfortress.tv/forum/thread/1234-labeled-maps-for-players-new-to-competitive-tf2

Learning to call out damage, tracking Uber & having a strategy that the team stick to are just a few.

That's why I've found the Newbie Mixes @ TeamFortressTV so useful (sadly there wont be one due to ESEA Season 13 LAN

but back to the point of this thread if any real effort comes of this count me in
