Connection Issues

Hello,

When i play battlefield it oftens laggs a lot. Sometimes it disconnects or sometimes I just lagg a lot. My PC specs are good enough to play battlefield, and speedtest.net tells me my connection speed is 35Mbps, so that's good enough.

what could be the problem? Appriciate any help,

Is it just eGO servers or ALL battlefield servers? When you run speed test, how far away is the test server from you? I believe all of our servers are in Texas.. try running a speed test and a ping test on a Houston,Tx test server. post the results.

I am playing on european servers, because I am from europe. So that's not the problem. Thanks though.

It could be a number of things. If you could elaborate further, it'd be easier to provide assistance.

Well, Ill give a couple of example. Sometimes when I start battlefield, I click on "deploy", or whatever you should press before you enter the battle. I click it but nothing happens, I view the map and I notice nobody is moving. I wait a 10 seconds and I get a battlelog error which tells me connection is lost.

Or like I said the game just gets verry laggy, like everybody freezes for a second or less, or more.

how many computers are on your service? is your wireless router IPv4 or IPv6? IPv4 only has 4 ports so if you have more then 4 devices on the wireless(or wired) you will get lag and packet loss. same for IPv6, 6 devices max.

How do I check this? And there is my laptop, which is always on, just without doing anything on it, and there's my iPad, which im not actively using during gaming but is still on. Aaaand there is my phone, which im not using neither but still I receive messages on it. So the only device using a lot of data must be this PC while playing games.

EDIT: ooh and there is the TV downstairs which is on sometimes.

my suggestion.. get a new router. Linksys has several to choose from that will fill your needs. check ebay for a wrt120g, like this:

though it is still IPv4, the through-put is much faster and the range/reception is fantastic. Your Belkin router has received very poor reviews aswell as customer dissatisfaction.

Im running 1 of these now with 4 pc's, a 3DS, a Wii, and a tablet pc... I can do pretty much anything other then massive downloading with everything connected.

It has received bad reviews, but does that mean it actually is worse/bad? Because the price was 70$ Thanks for your reply tho, I might get another one someday. But first I wanna compare the specs? What specifications should I compare from routers to determine which has beter through-put?

wireless transfer rates and signal bands (2.4ghz single or 2.4 ghz plus 5ghz dual band) the dual band is of course better.... though the other thing slowing your rates down is probably your modem which I will assume runs slower then 54Mbps.

your current router max wireless rate is: 54Mbps single band

the 1 I linked is: 150Mbps single band

Linksys also makes modem/router combos.. these are designated by an X before the product number.. example X2000

I think we have arround 60Mbps internet, on my room I get 38Mbps now. So a max rate of 54Mbps is around what we have, still beter to change?

EDIT: what exactly do you mean by "runs slower than 54Mbps"? How do I check how 'fast it runs' ?

yes, because the modem isn't allowing you to receive the full 60Mbps service, neither is your router. 38Mbps is kind of slow when it comes to playing data rich games like Black Ops or BC2. Your wireless receiver may also be downgrading your connection speed. I would suggest doing some research and find a product that will work for you.

Alright thanks Could you give me an example of a router which makes it able to give me the full 60Mbps? Also im on a floor higher so how do i know if a router has a strong "through-wall" connection? is that the wireless transfer rates and signal bands?

as long as your modems through-put speed is as fast or faster then your service.. a Linksys E3000 and above would work good for you. The E3000 is a dual band router(2.4 and 5ghz) max wireless speed: 300Mbps, wired: 1000Mbps and is IPv6 with 6 internal antennas, so a max of 6 connected devices at any time without lag or packet loss. I would suggest just getting a Factory Refurbished unit, since you get the same quality at a lesser price.

It might not even be his connection that is slow. Call your ISP. The box where the internet is actually hooked up to might be calibrated to even lower speeds and needs to either be switched over or recalibrated.

But if that would we the case, not only the internet on my PC would be slow but every internet connection in the house would be, right? In my case only my PC is slow.
