A .wav is better quality, a .mp3 is a compressed form of a wav file. when a wav is compressed into a mp3 it losses some of its data, it may sound the same to a human ear, but data is missing from the compression process to a mp3.

they did this so u can save on storage for cds and hdd space etc.

lol exactly morbid, you need really good equipment like you got to be able to tell the diff between a wav and mp3! If u listening to a wav and mp3 on an onboard motherboard with generic cheap speakers you wont be able to tell much of a difference.
