Building a budget PC for a friend, budget of $530. any more suggestions?

Anything better that you can suggest that might be cheaper? I have until Thursday to make any changes before he orders.

Do you have to buy it from Amazon.com? I would assume newegg.com and tigerdirect.com would offer better prices and discounts (free S&H anyone?)

Also, a micro ATX mobo is really limiting, but on that budget, sacrifices must be made.

Two things that you may have intentionally omitted, but wanted to check:
1) OS
2) Hard drive

Side note: Reading some reviews on the CPU, some people say the stock heatsink runs a bit too loud or hot. That may be a future upgrade though.

He's got the HDD and OS covered. And i did it on newegg and tigerdirect and it was actually more expensive

That is a bit of a shock. Usually Amazon is at least 25% more expensive lol.

Thinking about it, it could be a Memorial Day Sale on Amazon; Newegg and Tigerdirect had their sale on other products that he did not chose. I know Newegg was offering a % off on hard drives (which he didn't need).

CPU/APU: It is powerful for a pretty much anything you can currently throw at it application wise and because it has a built in discrete AMD 7660D when combined with a AMD GPU you will be able to use crossfire with it and improve your gaming performance/experience.

Mobo: It has all you pretty much need usb 3.0, pci-e 16x, sata 6GB/s for a budget like this and is well liked as a cheap matx board.

GPU: Cause be kicks the 650ti so hard in performance that the 650 forgets what it's supposed to do in a system. Also the 7660D on the APU will give it a nice boost as well.

Ram: Because its ram and you need ram, so there is ram.

PSU: It has all the proper connections and power requirements for the system.

Case: Because it looks nice and has a bit of quality for how cheap it is.

DVD-Drive: Cause he seems to need it? You can always just go to a local computer shop and pick up a cheap one they have in like the parts bin for $8 or just get a USB 3.0 dvd drive. I personally use a USB 3.0 thats in my closet because I hardly ever need one and its just something else to collect dust in yoru case.

Keyboard/Mouse: Let him use what he currently has or extend the budget cause when building a pc you want all your $$ you have to go into parts that are needed and stuff like K/M I consider less important when budget is this tight.

-Does he really need an optical drive? I haven't used one in years. Install windows from a USB flash drive (if you don't have one at least 4gb just buy one instead of the optical drive)
-Does he not have a mouse/keyboard at all? I don't see a point of spending money on crappy mouse/keyboards, use the crappy ones you already have and save up for decent ones
-You don't need to buy extra fans, just get a half decent case that comes with 1 or 2. You can always add more later if you have to.

I like what you did, but that GPU requires at least 500 watts minimum to run. Having just 500 watts is dangerous. I would go with at least a 750 maybe even a 600+ would be better.
 
The difference between the two builds is the CPU. One is the new APU from AMD, the other is a pure CPU.

APU + GPU = Crossfire performance (and reviews I'm reading says this chip can run games at good FPS; combined with a GPU for CR, you can play much more graphic intensive games like Skyrim and such)

To me, the question is: What's a better gaming PC. CPU + GPU or APU + GPU.

If you're talking about what it says on the product page, they extremely overestimate because they don't know what CPU you're using and have to compensate for people who buy low quality PSUs.

400w psu wouldnt be able to take the load properly and wouldn't be stable and thats if you could even get it to boot with that...

The APU would be beneficial and give a noticeable boost while gaming or in any other 3d application.

Read again; only the 1 I pointed out was looking at the individual 7850.
