There are many reasons why your computer would lock up or seem to "hang" when attempting to run any software. First and foremost I think of malware as it is always a safe bet to make sure your system is clean of infection. Let me know if you need assistance in this procedure. Next I would make sure you are not overloading your computer with software running in the background. You can limit the software running by using the built in feature within Windows called "msconfig" (without quotes). The startup tab is where you want to review and uncheck unnecessary software. Run the bare minimum such as your live antivirus protection for example. Next, if you recently installed a driver update to any hardware in your computer you might want to uninstall it and go with the previous stable version that was not affecting your computer in such a negative manner.
