How did you get into TF2?

I got in on the orange box as well. But I really wasn't that interested in TF2 until 2011, when my roommates started playing it. I always loved TFC, and I just kind of refused to jump on TF2 for a long time. But it's super fun.. even if I do still miss grenades

Hey folks, new to eGO, and mostly playing DoD:S right now, but also like TF2 a lot. Like a few others, I loved TFC back in the day (pre-2005), and was all over the arrival of TF2 (and Orange Box in general). I took a good 4 year break or so, but TF2 recently brought me back to DoD:S, which is how I found eGO.

Once upon a time, not too long ago, in a galaxy far, far away, there was a socially awkward little Rd slumming around his house in the hell-like Arizona heat, who was oppressed by the dictatorship-like monotony and difficult upkeep of the Xbox 360. He thought to himself, "I don't need to live like this anymore. I can rise up against the tyrants and make a new land of peace and prosperity, where DLC doesn't cost as much as the game itself, and membership is free, and where violent games aren't inhabited by prepubescent children with vulgar vocabularies and voices in which their frequencies can shatter glass." Rd set out on a quest to find entertainment which fit all of the criteria, but to no avail. Rd then remembered that he had watched the "Meet the" Valve promotional videos for the game "Team Fortress 2," and decided it might be swell. He installed steam, installed TF2, and had a jolly old time ever since. Oh, and he also joined eGO about two to three months later. The end.

I saw a spy frag video on youtube in 2009 and I had to get the game. Funny thing is, I hate playing spy now.

My step dad got the orangebox in 2008, and when he was at work I would use his computer. I was 10 at the time. I saw Team Fortress 2 and immediately fell in love with it. Later I saw TF2 for sale in a Best Buy, and immediately had to have it.

The very first eGO server I played on was the Arena server in 2009. Playing that watch tower all day long. A tiny bit later I was playing on the eGO Egypt map, and was wondering what this clan was that had their tag trade marked. I asked someone about it, and he helped me sign up. That man was KR_Decade. If any of you know him, I think he stopped playing 2 or 3 years ago.

Then we didn't have a computer for a few years, and I saw that TF2 was F2P in some video game news article. I was excited and started playing again. Then I remembered my amazing clan, and tried to remember the name.

I found that the website had changed, and for some reason the new website was having problems with my account, so I made a new one.

I then proceeded to take over the TF2 division, and I am now the supreme ruler of hats, all grovel before me!

And that is my history with TF2.

The year was 2009, and I was a Junior at my collegiate high school. Students needed to take a 1 credit hour elective class for May term. I picked the elective Gaming 101, which was about learning how FPS games were made and mapping in UT2004. Each student was assigned one of the school's Steam account so we can try out FPS games and get a feel for them. I was not into FPS games before this, so this introduction to Valve's games changed my life.

I was introduced to CS:S and HL2 during the class. We did not play TF2, but I did have access to the Steam account over the summer. (They didn't change the passwords until Fall term.) So I was able to try out the other games on the account, including TF2. I loved it. Fast forward a year later, I finally purchased Team Fortress 2 for myself (during a sale).

EDIT: Just saw Meep's post. To clarify, I did play TF2 on her account up until I bought my own copy. I knew how much fun the game was, having played the copy on the school's account.

When I was in high school, I used to be part of the computer club. The label "computer club" is one that ought to be taken lightly; it was a glorified LAN party once a week. My best friend convinced me to play Quake II with some others, and my skills were utterly deplorable. I was abysmal at the game. When I figured out how to shoot and jump at the same time, that was a milestone for me. Strafing was so advanced that it may as well have been time travel to me. Unsurprisingly, I was a favorite target for railgunners and one guy who liked to frag me while in a Sailor Moon skin.

We still worry about that guy.

Anyway, fast forward to four years later. Having just graduated from college, I became deeply fascinated by Team Fortress 2 with the mushrooming number of videos available on YouTube about the game. The same friend who had introduced me to Quake II had TF2 and was my go-to source of information. He directed me to Steam and I tried out the game the weekend that the update for Macintoshes went live. I was instantly hooked.

I would play on various servers here and there when I started out; Valve servers mostly, but then I branched out to custom map servers like a remake of TFC 2fort and a curious little thing called "24/7 Blackmesa." The rest is history.
