Hey all . . . I was thinking that we might want to consider changing on rule #4 on the login page for the servers. Right now it says "No excessive offensive language" . . and I think we should make it less permissive . . . that rule makes it sound like we'll tolerate offensive language, just not excessively. I think that it would be more appropriate by saying something along the lines of what GardenGroveVW says: "No Foul or Abusive language while on this server should not be tolerated." Just to make it clear what we expect and won't condone. If this is splitting hairs, please kill the post and you'll hear nothing else about it from me. I just think we would be better laying down what our expectations as a clan are. Just my 2 cents . . .

I'll go with that. Just say No foul or abusive langauge tolerated.

I agree, but i do have a question. What foul or abbusive language are we not tolerarting? I may not be an admin but...? lolz. I mean like the f word is definatly swearing but things like blood ly, is that?

vlord, basically it's anything that is obviously offensive. It depends on context a little, too. Just use good judgment, you'll see when someone's wrong.

Thankyou Deliro, but what if it isn't obvious. Like yesterday, someone had the name 'Dick Dastardly' (Not meant offensivly). Ma Sahdow thought it was swearing but other e's disagreed? (No offence to Ma shadow) what do you think?

there was a thread like this in the eG section I wish i could link it to you guys but if your not eg you cant see it.. It was about the same topic in this case "Obsessive offensive language" heres the first 3 posts of that

this has been bothering me for sometime, but ive never had to much of a chance to ask about it, the rules on the servers state that, no one should use obsessive ovensive laung. or its some how writtin like that, but the word obsessive, we seem to actuly say u cant say anything offensive, which im not aginst that, but I beleive the rule is miss leading with the word obsessive, that means to me, that they can cuss every once in a wile, just not over and over and over and over and over again, tho I might just be misinturpiting the rule, either way, thought id just ask about it

I think its written that way so if someone slips up, nothing more than a simple verbal warning ("Please watch the language") is necessary. If it said "No Offensive Language" then you would have to assume one slip up would be worthy of admin actions.... I could be wrong though.

yah if you use bad language obsessively (which means alot) that can get you kicked and or banned

I believe it is like this (correct me if im wrong)

1st Offense: Verbal Warning ie. please watch the language
2nd Offense: another Verbal Warning ie. this is my last warning or you will be kicked please watch the language
3rd Offense: take steam id in case they come back and Just Kick
4th Offense: Ban ie if they come back in blazing curse words at you ban if you dont have the ability to ban take his steam id or tell an eGO or council member that you need this guy banned

I never thought of this till now if you don't know how to find his steam id go in console and type status copy it all we dont need all of it but if you have no idea what those numbers mean dont worry about make sure you copy and paste it right and message an admin

I agree, set the standards high on the rules page so everyone knows what to expect. No foul or abusive language tolerated sums it up nice

.....I would have to agree with Mithos on this one as it could potentially make people think we are uptight jerks about cussing. In my eyes, this hurts our reputation to the general TF2 community.

Good point there . . . I didn't consider it quite that way. I don't want people thinking of us as uptight. I guess if there are eGO members around to ask others not to swear when they do (and there always will be) then it's not an issue. Thanks for the input Cord and everyone.

Yeah, we've had a few people already calling us uptight crazies on the Gravelpit server when two people got kicked for having a pot leaf and a bong as their avatars. People on both teams were going "Oh, yeah, because that offends me SO MUCH."

I don't disagree at all with those kicks, as that's definitely against server policy, but people already get the idea that we're a little uptight. Had a couple of people drop the server right there.

I think we need to just continue the policy of giving people warnings--I don't think they pay much attention to the rules on the front page, anyway, and a warning from an admin in chat probably has the most impression.

I had a few people tell me slip-ups like "Oh sh*t!" on voice after dying unexpectedly were fine, especially if you caught yourself, but that using it for direct disrespect: "omg u f*ckin' noob retards" was generally a lot more severe.
