Rule Confusion

Having played on the clan servers rather often over the last week I was concerned about some tactics used by guildies and non-guildies. According to the guild rules, "5. No Cheating, Cheat Scripts, Barrier Jumping, Map Exploits or Hacks Of ANY Kind," are allowed. So, I would just like some clarification on this. Barrier jumping and shooting people before the map has officially started have been problems in particular and I have yet to see them enforced so I am probably mistaken about what that means exactly.
Maps like dustbowl I'd assume would mean no heading past the pit and firing into the respawn door. The bigger concern has been Well, where it's common practice for soldiers to jump the train before the doors have been opened, or snipers pegging people from over the obstructions. I'd consider that barrier jumping more than anything else. And since we're on the topic, I'd like to know if jumping into the respawn tunnels on gravelpit in order to block the the doors or firing missiles at the respawn is allowed. I'd like to believe not, but since I've played games where it was almost impossible to even leave the respawn it must be an allowed practice on the guild servers.
I don't mean to be rude or start an argument here. I would just like som clarification for myself as well as those moderating the servers so that this can be stopped. I must say the foul language has certainly been cleaned up.

I, too, would like some clarification. Today, at Well, there was a non-stop stream of demos throwing sticky bombs over the train cars, soldiers rocket jumping over them, and snipers pegging people through the cracks long before the round had begun. As I watched several members of the clan participate in this, it seemed to be condoned behavior, yet I would have assumed it to be clearly against the above cited rule.

I think the respawn camping is allowed on gravelpit from the discussion on a recent thread saying that it is the team's responsibility to work as a team to get out of that situation. The other stuff could be seen as barrier jumping in my opinion, I don't think that one is a big deal because neither team has an advantage as they do in dustbowl, and this can be avoided on well by standing behind the building curve, but I support whatever decision is made on that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, anyone. But if the mappers had really intended those spot to be unjumpable/unpassable during the beginning of the match I feel they would have placed some Bullet Clipping or Player Clipping brushes to stop the flow of enemies and enemy fire from getting through. So as far as I'm concerned, they were made to be able to be jumped over. I guess it's all about strategy. If players were required to get up there using a dispenser or perhaps the medic needles boost exploit of course it'd be disallowed. But using normal gameplay to jump something like that, which isn't neccesarily identified as a barrier, cannot and willnot be disallowed. It does NOT give them any help in capturing the point, so it's not really and exploit. Get some sentries built up if you're expecting them is the only thing I can reccomend.

As for the others, I will leave it to council or another advisor to clarify.

I don't think that the ability to jump over the trains on well really counts as an exploit since both teams can do it, however shooting through a gate during setup is because you have to do it just right in order to find that bug that Valve can never seem to fix. Also in well if you take an engineer and setup your dispenser/teleporter up along the wall in the final cp then you can get up on the ceiling and place guns in such a way that spys will never sap them and other players will find it hard to lock on since they are so high up. I remember playing with some admins and we were talking about banning the tactic however it was so easy to get by them that it didn't seem worthwhile. My two cents is that if the action can be used easily by both sides during the course of the map then no, however if it is a true bug that takes real effort to find and use then yeah it should be banned. Lucky for us that Valve always makes bugs for us to find!

It's already been discussed in a couple of forum topics and in-game a few times that I've seen, but the only violations of that rule seem to involve actual bugs or glitches, such as shooting under closed gates as a pyro or grenade jumping off a map. Jumping over the trains, jumping into the spawn areas of Gravel Pit, and running through the pit on Dustbowl (I'm assuming you mean the second "map") to the spawn point all seem to be valid strategies. They take a bit of work and risk, but I believe in making your enemy fight for every inch they get. If they let themselves get pushed back in one area, they need to learn to focus elsewhere or push forward as a team to take out the one Soldier or whatever it is that's holding them back.

I don't like when people shoot the gates, and that rule is already enforced on the Dustbowl server, but I agree with Morbid that if Valve didn't want people to do things like that the Mappers would have done something.

i pretty much agree with you guys on this... if the map was made to allow it then it should be disallowed but its up to the council to decide

I think this is a question for Kendle.

Maybe he could put up some barriers?

Remaking the map with some barriers would be fairly easy, it might mess up the achievements though.

I think putting up barriers would be and change how Valve meant for the game to be played. Yes I think sniping through the gate in dustbowl and blocking the door as scout are glitches and should not be tolerated. Jumping over the railcars in Well or sniping through the gap is perfectly okay, if you don't want to get killed by it, then fight back or get out of the way where they can't get you.

I don't personally see the need for anyone to remake the map. I was just curious as to whether or not the trains in Well were along the same lines as the gate in Dustbowl. As nearly everyone seems to agree that it is all right, then that is cool.

Okay, so... Now that that has been settled...

Can I ask: What counts as a cheat script?

I ask because I made myself a medic healing script so I don't have to hold down my mouse button and I like to spread it around so people find medic less of a hassle. However, I was told not to pass it around on EGO as it was considered "cheating". What is a "cheat script"?

Thanks.

That isn't a cheat script, thats a config file. I have tons of those, and Valve made Team Fortress 2 very customizable by allowing everyone to create these configs. If you choose not to use them, thats fine.

Okay, so I noticed my healing script thread disappeared. Could I get a PM or response as to why? Is my script considered a 'cheat'? I'd appreciate a direct answer (I won't dispute it) as opposed to ninja deletion.

Thanks.

Your post was moved to clan advisors. We don't allow scripts posted in our forums. We are a pure clan we don't need scripts. If you have to have a script to toggle a mouse button then i think your lazy (personally).

If a script didn't come with the game. Then don't use it. I don't care if valve released it. If you can't hold down the button wow you must be lazy. Its not that hard to just push a button. :)

If you have problem with that please pm me. But anyone that is going to be posting scripts will be moved/deleted.
