Some of you might have played Command & Conquer Renegade, and some of you might have no clue as to what I am writing about. Well late February was the public open beta release of Renegade X which is Command & Conquer Renegade, but updated and redone in the Unreal engine. Now, since Renegade X started open beta for free on the 25th, there is no reason as to why you can't pick it up, unless your computer is run by a potato powered battery. It has been 12 years since the release of C&C Renegade, which is a long time. Renegade X however, is up to par with the older version, and refreshed with new graphics.
What is Renegade X? Well that is a good question my friend! Think of Battlefield meets Command & Conquer. Wait, what is Command & Conquer? Urm, do you live under a rock at the bottom of the sea!?! Well, short history lesson. Command & Conquer is a real time strategy game series which has expanded over the years. First with the Tiberium Wars series, then Red Alert and many more. Renegade was the first and only of the series to be a First Person Shooter. It mixed the elements of an RTS and FPS, sure there is no commander roll in Renegade, but that?s because this was the first of its kind, technology back then had rarely seen something like this.
History lesson over, so back on track. Renegade X is a First Person Shooter that has destructible buildings, vehicles, a huge arsenal of weapons which include special weapons like air strikes and ion cannons. The goal of the game is to overrun the enemy base and blow up all the buildings. However watch out for base defense towers! You, the player will need to team up with others to break through and knock out all structures, which is no easy task seeing as how you can repair all structures, unless they are destroyed. On top of assaulting the enemy base, you must defend your own, but watch out! You need to defend your harvester, otherwise you will have no credits and the game will be over before it even started.
The game is well balanced and absolutely free, meaning no transactions ever. Its like Planet-side 2, but not having to buy weapons or other knickknacks. Meaning no micro-transactions ever. Whats even cooler is the fact that when you play the game through the Desktop shortcut, and if you have steam running, it will run through steam! However seeing as how the game has no money value it won't be on steam, or so far no one has comment on it. What are you waiting for? Check out this free game!
