Solly, here we come!

Rocket Jumping
Extremely important for soldier. Learn it and you will be so much better. Rocket jump to the front lines faster, onto the point to take out the enemies, etc. Not much to say here even though it's the most important one.

Gunboats
So you suck with your shotgun and you're good at rocket jumping?

Escape Plan
This one is nice, especially if theres no medic on the team. Be sure to know what situation you're using it in, though, since it's almost an instant death while you are marked!

Black Box
Black box is good if you plan on less time before hits, since you'll have one less rocket to shoot and you'll have to reload more often. On this one, make sure you're a little behind and shooting, as you may take more than 15 damage if you're in the front lines, especially without that last rocket!

Pain Train
Worth it assuming you're pushing the cart and you're team thinks fairies will do it for them (and they're right, assuming you're a fairy) or need to rocket jump and capture that control point. Probably not useful if there are lots of scouts on the team unless the above scenarios are true.

Protect your Medic
You are fairly good at protecting a medic because you can knock back enemies and sometimes can do a fair amount of damage.

Buff Banner
This is perfect for pushes or in large groups. You can give mini-crits to everyone, and this with uber guarantees your point or at least wiping out a sentry nest. Use it if you can get damage but your team is a little bit cornered in.

Airshots
These are extremely difficult, and it gives the same effect if you just shoot at where they are or will land. Knocking your enemies in the air prevents them from moving and can guarantee the kill if you do it correctly. Airshots are much more difficult, but you can practice on tr_walkway.

Thank you for all the positive feedback! Don't forget to leave your thoughts and other Soldier tips!

P.S. Sorry it's a little less today, did it a bit quickly

3 rockets then shotgun
When you're running shotgun as your secondary, instead of shooting all of your rockets then switching to your shotgun, once you've use 3 rockets switch to your secondary. If you win the fight and more enemies are coming in, this gives you the chance to knock them back with your last rocket or rocket jump to safety.

Secondary
Your secondary slot is one of the most versatile in the game, be sure to use it right. You have everything from gunboats and mantreads, to a shotgun or a conch. All of these weapons are extremely useful in their own situations. Know when to use each. Don't be a soldier that is locked in with his secondary, try to always change it to accommodate to your play style and team comp.

Shotgun: When you want to be the most all around soldier that can either stay with your team or roam, can deal more damage but lose all team buffs that can be given through backpack items.
Gunboats: When roaming as soldier, useful when you need to rocket jump right into the fight and still have enough health to stay alive
Man treads: When using trolldier
Buff Banner: When you're team really needs to push back against the other team to gain a position, either on offense or defense.
Battalions backup and Concherer: When your team needs to do a hard push against an encroached enemy, that has nests and better positions than you. (i.e. first point of Dustbowl part 3)
Reserve shooter and Rightous Bison: People use these for soldier?

Rocket Jumping continued
When rocket jumping, try to launch your self the most horizontally you can. Ideally somewhere around 30 - 40 degrees or so. This will launch your forward faster, but also gives you the advantage of not taking fall damage, which will give you more health to jump into the fight.

All jump maps are incredibly helpful to practice rocket jumping. Sure you won't necessarily be doing triple jumps, but practicing all these types of jumps will get your basic rocket jumps down solidly.

Leading targets
Learning to lead targets is one of the most basic and useful soldier skills, learn to fire in front of them when their moving sideways from you. This will ensure your rockets hit them. When having a class that is much more mobile, such as another soldier or scout, aim at where they're going to land.

Aim for the feet
Aiming at the feet of enemies will launch them up most of the time, this launch up, even if it is a really small one, will ensure that they don't move. Your target will be immobile and will be easier to hit with your rocket or shotgun after that, this leads to easier kills. It also makes it harder for the enemy to hit you since they'll have to readjust their aim. Sometimes even that small readjustment is enough to have to win the fight.

Unusuals
The easiest way to get better at soldier (or any class actually), is to get an unusual. Your skill level will rise by approximately 37.3% when your acquire and use an unusual.

Hopefully all these besides the last one help anyone trying to get better at soldier.

Best tip of the day

The Concheror is beastly. +2 health per second can't be undervalued and the speed/healing buff when activated can really help tear up another team. You really can't go wrong with any of the banners though.

Yeah, I've been using the conch+black box lately... so OP ha.

This is true. Confidence is a strange thing.

When playing as a Medic, I'm sure I tend to favor unusual-wearing players. They're easier to spot, and track, in general. Especially the players with more highly visible effects. I'm saying I do this on purpose, but when making quick decisions visibility is a factor.
