This Is No Joke - Server Changes Are Go

I've been too busy the last week to play much (seeding like a boss though). Hoping to check out some of these changes soon.

I like the changes to VMs

And so far, the feedback I have heard on the All Talk changes have been positive.

Thanks for all the work you people do on the technical side! Here's hoping VM will do well with the changes.

How does no spread affect... well, things. I've never heard of it being implemented. I've definitely heard crit complaints. Other than that, changes look promising and useful.

Some feedback here. Nutshell: Love eGO. Hate the changes to 2Fort.

Lets start with the Threshold Plugin. First off I'd like to say, damn you for making me say Threshold Plugin. I feel like a potty mouth now and have to go brush my teeth.

Also, I completely hate it. Yeah. The word here is definitely hate. I've found that in addition to watching what the players around me are doing now, I've also got to pay attention to the number of players online. Otherwise, I'm accidentally giving information away to the other team because all talk is suddenly on. Now, I'm all for camaraderie and fun, but sometime there are things I have to say about Soup...errr...I mean other players that are best kept on the team. (yes Soup. joking)

What you've done to us with the...Threshold Plugin (shudder) [BRUSH BRUSH BRUSH] does NOT help us socialize. It it's an inconvenience and it takes away our choice in the matter. A simple All-Talk vote would be a much better solution here. I actually left the server last night because I was so unhappy with this change.

I am in agreement with Ezekiel and Toxxin. I sincerely hope you'll reconsider this plugin. This is not a game experience that I am interested in at all.

On the matter of quick re-spawns. I'll suffer it if I have to, but I feel it cheapens the "player life." If re-spawn times are longer, players must "look before they leap," because they know they can't just pop back out of spawn in a few seconds. This is especially important on the 2Fort map. Shortening re-spawn times changes game-play behavior.

I'll suffer it, if that's really what people want, but I don't like it. I prefer Valve's timing decision here. Also, damn you for making me say that I agree with Valve. :p

I have to agree about the all-talk. I definitely never a fan of it. Not to be anti-social, but because not only do I risk spilling info to the enemy team, but have to listen to fellow teammates unwittingly do it.

Also, all talk actually discourages ANY talk for this reason. I find that most all-talk situations, comms is dead. When it is switched off, it often comes back to life. And it is because of those comms, that I have enjoyed Edge servers and got drawn into the clan. But I guess at least I know it is safe for me to talk if at least 17 people are on. . and stay on ;)

For me. . TS is all talk and that is where all talk should be done!

Just my opinion!

I get no crits but what do you mean by no spread, I don't understand what is the spread mechanic in the game?

When you use a shotgun, scattergun or any other weapon with a "spread" normally the pellets will hit random locations within a certain paramater of where you are aiming. No-spread takes the random out of it and every pellet will hit the exact same spot every time you pull the trigger.

The easiest example I can give is the shotgun, fires 9 pellets that would normally hit in a box each pellet in a random spot within that box. With no spread active the pellets will hit in 3x3 pattern in the shape of a square. The further you are from your target the larger the square will become but it will stay a square with each pellet being perfect distance from the other pellets. If I can ever get my replay's to save properly I will post a replay of this effect for better understanding.

I have to agree with the concerns about alltalk. I'd like to keep it a choice, but at least add a command like !alltalk that immediately tells us if alltalk is on or not.

Which servers do you refer to? I can assure you that if you join Egypt when the regulars are on, there will be all talk on and the server is lively because of it.

So just to clarify which servers you mean.

Do people play seriously using comms in a server only half full? I can understand maybe at 15 people, but what about at 8?

We usually have so many complaints about respawn times on all servers. Since 2fort is a small map, it made sense to shorten the respawn time.

Wait, wait, wait, hold the banana phone. People play seriously on 2fort at all? Bizarre.

That is like athletes doping to win the special Olympics.

Don't hate. I love both 2fort and Egypt, for different reasons. The short spawn time has made 2fort even more fun. There are maps I really can't stand, but I just don't play them (unless I am trying to fill).

Be nice. I've seen YOU tryharding in 2fort.
O_o
Even harvest.

Hey, my nocturnal bloodletting doesn't necessarily equal tryharding; just cause I want to murder people and cap the intel doesn't mean anything :P
To butcher a quote from the late John Paul Jones, "I have not yet begun to tryhard!"

I just think it is funny when people chatter away over team speak and then get bent out of shape over alltalk. If you have something super important to tell your team only, just type it out. If not, let the other team hear. Most pubs don't listen anyway, and the great scary beasts that might benefit from the tactical chatter like Yewki or Hero are prolly gonna kill us all anyway
:chair:

It's not the All-talk; it's the sudden automatic change to all-talk. There really is no reason for this plug-in at all. If the majority of the server wants all-talk, then an all-talk vote would suffice. If you're interested in keeping the server happy, let the server vote for all-talk. Otherwise you're just making a decision for everyone. Does that make sense or is it just me?

I'll live with the re-spawn if I have to.

I received complaints about the !votealltalk on 2fort because it will be turned on and then a) people do not know how to turn it off or b) it's turned on in a full server when people want to play seriously, probably by accident due to 1 being "yes".

We can't change the number values of the vote menu, if that is the next question to be asked.
