Post here if you have any suggestions, constructive comments, ideas, wants or needs!

Thanks for supporting eGO's RUST Server!

I see that there's a "remove" command on the server. Which is perfect and all - however, it doesn't give us the stuff we remove back. So lets say I misplace a wall and I remove it - I lose that wall, which was a waste of 40 wood. Now that may not seem like a lot, but for other people like pubs, they may get frustrated about that.

I assume the option to get back the removed stuff was disabled and hence, I would suggest it to be enabled.

Personally I don't see an issue with this. Many similar games (such as the Dayz Epoch mod) have a removal option that does not yield your stuff back.

It is one thing if you make a mistake (just have to endeavor to be careful). Also if you gather materials in order to raid someone's base, and say you staircase to the top. Then at the end you would be able to recover all of your staircases etc intact, essentially costing you nothing in materials, which seems a little OP.

I think Golden stated it best. That's the reason why /remove doesn't give you your stuff back. The topic is open for discussion though. We can always change things. Will just need good justification.

A wipe will be coming up in the next few weeks. I would like to hear feedback on the mods that we are currently using. Which ones do you like or dislike and why? Also, suggestions on mods that are not currently installed. Suggestions/comments are always appreciated as we strive to make the server more stable and enjoyable.

This may be a hot topic item but personally I think the ability of safe base travel via suicide is a bit counter to the game philosophy. I don't know if there is a way to block the suicide command or maybe at least have a cool down on the command.

  1. I don't know if there's a way to implement that; suicide is a console command. Even if you don't use that you can always find a large drop or some rad animals.
  2. Even if it is possible, I'm not a huge fan of limiting it. If you base hop, you do so with nothing - you only have what is left at the base you try to hop to.
  3. Finally, even people without multiple bases (especially new players) will often suicide until they recognize where they spawn. Limiting that would be bad.

Yes but at least that takes effort. If you want to be able to die and respawn, especially for travel, you have to strip down, run outside and find an animal to kill you.

Yes but that is a narrow view of the situation. Take as an example you are playing and your base gets attacked. You can now ping your friends "hey we are being raided help". No matter where they are on the map they can very quickly warp across into the base and defend. This gives a major advantage to the defenders. Even if you take into account your point above, it takes more time to do that which in some cases can help even the odds by giving the attackers a little bit more time before the cavalry comes charging out to defend.

I fail to see how this is in any way "bad". I didn't even realize you could suicide for my first few weeks and I did fine without it. If I did want a better spawn I'd run up to a bear.

I don't see how it is a "good" thing to be able to login and go "oh i don't like this spawn, suicide","oh i don't like this spawn, suicide","oh i don't like this spawn, suicide","oh i don't like this spawn, suicide" over and over immediately until you find a spot you like. If this is good the game might as well have a "choose your spawn point" option at login.

Bottom line is I haven't seen anything from your reply that is compelling enough that the "good" outweighs the "bad". Of course it is moot if the command cannot be restricted anyhow.

Fair enough. I'd say getting rid of the suicide command is a matter of taste. However, this is the first time I've seen anyone ask for this sort of restriction, and I know that a bunch of people (admittedly, myself included) would be quite unhappy if we tried this.

Basically, I don't see the issues you laid out as worth going to the trouble of limiting the suicide command (and dealing with the inevitable backlash).

FYI - I did some quick Google searching. There is an anti-suicide mod out there, but there are two major problems with it:
  1. It completely blocks the suicide command. I'd consider that unacceptable - it means that if you get stuck in between rocks or in someone else's house you have no way to get out short of starvation.
  2. It runs on Oxide; I don't think we'll be using that mod framework.

I guess it came up in my mind because i noticed since joining ego's server at least, that when there is a decent population on, there is almost a near constant spam of suicides. People just use it a TON. I have to believe that wasn't the intended usage of the command and personally i think it gets used far too much.

We will be using Magma going forward which does not support suicide mod.

I was reading on the Magma forms and i think that one of the major things that should be changed is the Durability of items... i do agree they degrade way to quick... however with the new mod there is a option that you can set to lower the loss without turning it off completely... this will make it so that the you cant blow holes in someone and then have their Perfect armor and never have to change it out... this is a survival game and i feel that slowing the decay rate to a manageable level would be a welcome change... for example if the normal decay was say 1 we set it to .25, Basically quartering the decay rate. for armor and things... i can see for guns them wearing more often we are not gun smith and we don't even have the right tools so because of that things would not work perfectly... so i would say lets turn off the decay of 0% and set it to say 10-25%. this will make it a tad bit more realistic and i think make the game play more interesting... not to mention actually make the repair tables useful.. :) Below you will find the commands and the link to the magma forms for this change...

conditionloss.armorhealthmult "0.15" // standard 0.25 armor
conditionloss.damagemultiplier "0.5" // standard 1 hatchets and weapon

plugins found that i feel would be good\Usefull

eGO Leadership,
Upon hearing we were using Magma I went to their forms and started seeing what mods were out there. I think that these mods would be useful on the server attached you will find the mods the links and my thoughts as to how I would configure them. As well was why I think they would be useful and good for the server.

All Log 2014-04-01
http://gomagma.org/community/index.php?resources/all-log.38/

What is this mod:
This mod is basically a super logging mod that will allow for more admin logging and be able to catch cheaters, Admin abusers, bad eGO members, bad Pubbers, and handle them accordingly.

Why do I think this is useful\Good for the server:
I think this would be a good admin tool it will allow for much better logging of what is going on the server.

My Thoughts on Configuration:
None

TpFriend 2.1
http://gomagma.org/community/index.php?resources/tpfriend.82/

What is this mod:
This mod is basically a teleport to you friend’s mod.

Why do I think this is useful\Good for the server:
I think this would be a good tool for players that are new or trying to play with their friends, as many of us are aware it is sometimes very hard to track down exactly where your friends are on the server. This would allow you to request a tp to your friends and then poof you are there. Configs would need to be tight on this one to avoid abuse.

My Thoughts on Configuration:
The teleport should be limited to once a day (every 24 real hours). I also think that how long it takes to teleport should be fairly long so that you can’t teleport out of battle say 1-5 min for example. So once the tp has been accepted it is 1-5 min before you actually TP.

N4 Recycle Items
http://gomagma.org/community/index.php?resources/n4-recycle-items.19/

What is this mod:
You can recycle your unused item and get back some material.

Why do I think this is useful\Good for the server:
I think that it would be useful to be able to get some resources out of items you find and would not normally want to use.

My Thoughts on Configuration:
I think that the default rate for recycling should be something like 25-50% so you get only some of the resources back.
