Aren't the teams supposed to be randomised each set?

If they're not, then all those folks bitching about being on a crappy team might have a point sometimes.

Even if there's no bitching, it can be awfully one-sided after a game or two...I noticed that tonight. One side was pretty heavily weighted with high-ranks for a while.

Also, when the teams aren't randomised you get the same squads too. That get's a little close on both the pro and con side. I think people tend to stay in the same squad through a round when it's random. If it's not, it gets clique-ified.

Anyway, I prefer random teams/squads every round...gives me a chance to harass the bitchy ones. This way I'm kinda outta luck.

The Heavy Metal server scrambles every two rounds, but I've noticed that sometimes the "scramble" is pretty limited. (Maybe four of sixteen get switched.)

But winning a round is less about levels than teamwork, especially on Heavy Metal. There's a large open area between A and B and between B and C, and requires either infiltration or mass attack. If you have a team that all spots and forward defend then the former is impossible and the mass attack is subject to too much attrition. If you have a good team, one that uses forward spawn points and lots of communication, then either can be possible.

Usually when someone is complaining about a balanced team what they are really complaining about is tank campers and a lack of good pilots (or at least pilots that use smoke and don't hover over a battlefield like a smiley face shaped target). Heavy Metal requires spotting; the map is just too big, with too many hiding places, to think that 16 guys on a team can cover the whole front. It also encourages using a squad as spawn points more than other maps.

Tap Q, use gunners who tap Q, and use the squad, and a team of low level players is more than a match for 16 level 50 guys who don't work together.

Papa

Papa is right on target.

Aside from that, in my opinion and experience, the claim "all those 50's over there" does not necessarily mean - your doomed.

There are plenty of "50's" that start new soldiers and could be some of the "lower ranked" soldiers on the server at any given time. Many "50's" out there sure as hell don't play like "50's" but more like stat padders. Get them in a CQB map and see how they fare, without aircraft or tanks.

Honestly, I get lazy playing sometimes, especially when the other 15 on my team prefer to trim the hedges and play marbles in the field by the windmills...

When just a few work together, interesting things can and do happen. I have a bunch of those stories to share!

Yoo! You need to jump in TS and say hi sometimes, bud! ;-)

Honestly I believe the whole level system to be a moot point. If you don't know how to play the game by level 20 you never will. Being level 50 is more a reward of persistence than that of skill. You could be a totally garbage player and reach 50 as there is no experience decline system in the game. It will always bother me in game when I see that player say "They have more 50's on their team". Being level 50 doesn't even unlock everything for you, you still have to play the individual classes and earn unlocks.

Ok, well I didn't mean to insinuate that you old feller's were incredible, or anything. [um, even though you are incredible, y'know, uh, sirs] That was just an off-hand example, and it really wasn't the main point. It's not something i usually pay attention to, actually. I only noticed because someone else brought it up....and it seemed there was an effect at the time

I always spot - I'm kind of anal about it - and I drop ammo, and meds, revive when I can, and repair when I come across someone who needs it. I *like* to be teamy. Though I kind of suck when it comes to k/d, I still make almost-good scores because I support a lot. But not all players do, some are random outsiders, and most probably pay little or no attention to the chat lines so all that bitching is just more noise for me.

Of all the annoying crap that people do ingame, really the only things that get my back up are griefing/baseraping, and people bitching about the crappy team they're on. I think the more random, even every round, the better.

And while clans are the ultimate in cool (notice the sycophancy) cliques really suck. People tend to quit squads and find their friends if they didn't like them the last round. (ok, so my feelings got hurt...I bought ice cream...it's all good now)

I like it random. Just sayin'.

"Training" other players is not out of the question folks, if they have the right attitude, and you present advise in an objective way, you can get some players to listen and things improve.

So as the person who installed the scramble plugin I will shed some light on how it works (read: supposed to work. I will get to this in a second).

The scramble plugin is supposed to assign everyone a number and then randomly assign those numbers to teams after a preset amount of time which in our case is after every two rounds. So yes there is a chance that the teams don't change much based on this logic. It does not care about squads or rank.

After doing some digging through the procon forums though it seems like some people posted about the scrambler seeming to be less effective after a patch to BC2 in 2011 (right after BF3 was released). This was before we installed the scrambler though so if you have noticed a decrease in scramble ability since we have installed it then we may have a conflicting plugin (read: our balancer).

I do not remember the last time they patched BC2 but I believe it was when BF3 came out so I don't think a decrease in our scrambler's ability could be attributed to a new patch. My first guess would be that true balancer is fighting against the scrambler while it is scrambling and causing a worse scramble. The only way to truly test this though would be to disable our balancer and use BC2's built in one for a bit and see if there is a noticeable difference.

As to why squads could be kept together if my guess about true balancer is correct then I have an explanation about that but I'll spare it for now. Feel free to PM if you want me to explain it.

I really don't get too much upset when there are many more 50s or even high 40s and 50s on a particular team. My getting upset is the way they go about getting their kills sometimes but that is another story for another thread! (Most who know me know that it bugs me.;) ) But to say that it doesn't matter is very wrong. Most 50's and high 40's play together as a team and can make those on their team better so they do tend to cause an imbalance at times. Those that don't play as a team I agree are just stat padders but I am not talking about them. When I am on a team with many highly skilled players I tend to play better because with the teamwork I will become less conservative because those higher numbers have may back and herein is where the imbalance comes about when teams are so-called stacked. To say that a low level team cannot beat highly skilled players is not always true but that scenario is not the norm. If higher skilled players are that good why don't they jump to the losing side early on in the game once in a while. I have only seen one or two of our "high profile" guys do this. I have done this myself and I am no where near a highly skilled player. Just sayin'. (Probably no cookies for me from the upper echelon now! :O )

I'll get off the soapbox now.

P.S. Maybe some practice sessions with whoever would help.....................

-- I actually work with a guy named Lonewolf, but I won't hold that against you. ;] --

That was a good soapbox. I never thought about the switching-team aspect. I'm in the 30's I think, so I fit in just anywhere.

Aside from my bitching about the randomness, I've visited a couple of other servers over the last while and our dickheads ratio is way low compared to theirs. I didn't realise how dickhead-free we are.

No worries Yoo, I'm a special breed.

I agree with you on the part about the other servers. I have visited them many times in the past, though not recently and even belonged to another clan. Even the ones that consider their servers "strict" have many undesirables. I feel very fortunate to have found eGO and have been making more and more friends as time goes by and I am careful about who I befriend. Lots of fun here for sure!

We're spoiled, and popular. I've been going to Warriors Heavy Metal when the line is long and the penile craniums seem to rule over there.

After toggling one of the plugins, that may / may not have been affecting the functionality of the scramble plugin, off, it appears scramble got worse.

We are not giving up on it. With that said, please, as members, you don't either. It's a pain in the ass, I know. None of us like being completely dominated one way or another.

I strongly advise - As players on a team that is losing significantly leave, switch to their team to help. Step up. Help them out. Don't make it look like we take pride in being selfish and don't care ( cause I sure as hell do care ).

Something else you can try. If your on the massively losing team, jump out with a few others - this has to be coordinated - wait about 5 min for the auto balance to kick in and move people from the winning team over, then go right back! VOILA!

You know something else this does, when you put aside the desire for low KDR and high scores? Other players that are not members may think, "Hmmm... these guys are pretty cool. Not afraid to take one for the team" and might decide to join! WHAT!?

Please, hang in there. We are looking into alternatives.
