Hello brothers and sisters (if there are any) in arms. So as most of you know I have been having issues with my neck fusion done in Jan of this year also most of you know I am currently in law enforcement. It appears as though I am heading to another surgery soon enough leading to my inevitable "retirement" from law enforcement. I am currently in school for my IT degree and it seems that my hard work over the years and paid off in that I am being offered to become a civilian for the department in their Video Production unit, thank sweet baby Jesus. It has been a trying time for me especially with my first born on the way.
But I have to keep a positive mindset and learn how to be just a regular old joe. I have been doing cop work for almost 10 years and it's strange to think of doing anything but police work. I am glad that I have a digital community that I can come to for support and entertainment and I am glad I joined the ranks a while back. I also urge those who would want to join our CEVO team we have upcoming events and could use others to be on stand by in the event some of us do not make it. Those interested get a hold of Shadowlerks. Or send me a PM or add me on Origins do not be afraid to come and join up. We all learn and start somewhere, you'll see me on the all pop servers most of the time. Any ways I feel as if I dragged this post on for a while.

Sorry to hear about the medical issues, but I couldn't stop with a personal anecdote that might be helpful:

My best friend was a deputy sheriff here for almost 20 years, and literally wore out his body. He had a hip replacement about two years ago, and needs another. But, as it turns out, he didn't have to leave law enforcement. He simply transferred to the district attorney, where he now works as an investigator. Still has the badge, gun, county car, and NEVER gets a speeding ticket, but also has "regular" hours, holidays off, and his wife doesn't have anywhere near the fear about him heading off to work.

Look around, if the County of San Diego will hire a gimp, then somewhere in Bernalillo County there's something for you.

Hope it helps.

Papa

Thanks papa, yeah I haven't been getting a lot of assistance within the city. My certification is still good and if I heal right I could most likely carry on in another department. What it is boiling down to is do I really want to keep pushing this body until I break something else? With the neck and spinal cord compression it's a very tough thing to bounce back from. Just realized that I could make more money being a gimpy civilian than deal with the hot bed issue that is law enforcement In New Mexico.

I think you should try for cyber crimes detective. Like Papa said your not off the force. You can still make arrests but not hurt your body. I think youll do what is best for you and your family. Anyhow good luck and see you in the games

My father was federal law enforcement until after about a decade he couldn't just take the strain on his body. Or better yet, his mind was willing but the body was weak and fleshy lol take care of your body because until they can give us new ones, you are stuck with it. My father intimately switched to another three letter agency and gets to sit behind a desk and still make difference. I know we all have the urge to matter and do what's right, just take care of yourself. We all will support you in whatever you choose :)

Thank you all for the words of encouragement. With the climate of our policing here within the state and nation I think it is time to get into another form of work. When I first came on there was a lot of heart and soul into what we did, I know the heat is on high here in the state and city but I don't think I am willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice and answer the call of duty for the city. With a child on the way it has changed the way I view my personal safety and I am not willing to leave my child fatherless or my wife alone. I have bled for this city and at the moment it's fighting me trying to pass the buck on my health issues. Hard to change the mindset though I won't lie but I think the ability to not have to stress or worry if I am coming home at the end of shift is worth it.

Nothing robs employers of their loyal and dedicated employees faster than betraying the loyalty or (worse) ignoring that loyalty. It kind of sounds like that's where you are. Ultimately, please know that you do something that most of us just can't - we don't have the mindset required. There are lots of places to try, but in the end it is your decision and what is right or not is your opinion.

Best of luck.

Papa

Yes Papa that is exactly what has happened. I could imagine how injured soldiers coming home feel when they are abandoned by the branch of service they gave their blood and tears to. It easily ruins ones dedication to serve. But life is too short to cry over spilt milk just time to recoup and gear down for something else. In my state I wouldn't want to be a burden to my partners on the streets or the citizens I swore to protect because I am not fully able to conduct my full duties as a LEO. I will find another way to do something that matters if not for the citizens then for my unborn child and family. Can't lie it has been a real great reduction of stress not having to go deal with everyone else's problems haha.
