IP: Let's get the big question out of the way first. Everyone is going to want to know why you are stepping away from EdgeGamers. What can you tell us about that?
Spray: I'm stepping away from EdgeGamers because I no longer have the time to commit to it. I was in a role in eGO that requires a certain level of responsiveness that I could no longer maintain. I want nothing but eGO to continue to succeed, but if I didn't have the time to complete tasks I was in charge of, I would have been more of a hindrance.

IP: Can you tell us a little about how and why you joined eGO?
Spray: I joined eGO looking for a group of mature people to play with on a regular basis. I was primarily playing DoD:S when I joined, which was eGO's main focus at the time. I didn't know that anyone could sign-up and join the clan, so I insisted that I wait to be recruited, which I was in the DoD:S Donner server way back in January 2008. The person that got me in was a former council member, slayr357, who had kicked me to make room for another member to join the server. I hopped back in the server and he told me to join so that I would always have a spot. I got on Ventrilo, put in an application and I became member #2789 of eGO.

IP: What are some of your fondest memories of your time in eGO?
Spray: eGO played a huge role in my life over the years I was in, and I can think of quite a few memories, probably too many to name here. The best moments have probably been new game launches, like when we first started up in CS:S and the original Insurgency. It was amazing the amount of people we got together to recruit and build the servers up from scratch. The Battlefield Bad Company 2 launch was a great time; we had a fun group of leadership play the game relentlessly together. We ran events, pulled a ton of late nights and even made a few Youtube videos out of it.

IP: Have you learned anything in your years with eGO that you will take with you in real life?
Spray: I learned a lot in eGO that I've already been able to take with me in life. To name a few things, I learned a lot more about the configuration of server OSes, and game server software. I've expanded into a lot of new areas of programming that I had not considered before when I was creating or updating projects for eGO over the years. I've also learned about how advertising online works, at least in a general sense.

IP: What games are you playing these days?
Spray: I'm currently playing a bit of League of Legends in my off time and I will jump into CS:GO every so often.

IP: What were some of your favorite games to play with eGO?
Spray: With eGO, I still like to fall back on playing DoD:S and even Minecraft on occasion.

IP: Do you have any advice or tips for new members?
Spray: For new members, I would say just enjoy playing games and getting to know people. I think a lot of people focus on ranks in eGO, which isn't why you should join. I spent 6 months as an =(e)= ranked member, then another 4 months as an =(eG)=, but it never affected my ability to play games with others and have fun in the servers. The main focus for any group you join should be enjoying games in an environment you're comfortable in.

IP: How will you be using your time away from eGO now that you are stepping down?
Spray: Now that I'm stepping down, I'll be spending more time away from the computer screen and back into more real life events. It's healthy to mix online presence with real world activities, even if it's only going to grab a coffee or heading to a movie.

Insomnia Princess also spoke with our Board Chairman, Artimus, about Spray and his time here in EdgeGamers:

IP: Can you tell us some of the things Spray has done for the EdgeGamers community in his many dedicated years here?
Artimus: Starting out with DoD, Spray was a dependable and dedicated server guy. He was always there for us when something needed to be done with the servers. As we grew, his natural ability to understand complex technical issues was tapped into often and in many areas.

He was a natural replacement as Chief Technical Officer with the retirement of Kendle. I relied on him to communicate with server providers and our Ad Network.

IP: Can you give us some thoughts on his departure from the community?
Artimus: The void in the tech department can be filled in time, and Christy is a fine leader in that area, but Spray will be missed mostly for his gentle manner and witty conversation. That's my personal feelings on his departure, and I hope he'll still hang out in game and TS when he can.

IP: What can we (the community) learn from Spray and his tenure here?
Artimus: Anyone who takes the time to get to know him ought to let his calm leadership style rub off on them. He didn't freak out when drama got the best of some of us.

IP: Anything else that is important to you to say to the community?
Artimus: Leaders, as well as members, come and go. I know that our roster will change over time, but I hope that anyone accepting a leadership position will seek balance between eGO and real life obligations so that we can enjoy friendships with the walls of eGO for many years to come.

Thanks again Spray for everything you've done for EdgeGamers. You will be missed!
