tips to detect a spy

Normally I like to share all the tricks I know. But spies are underpowered enough as it is. Unless ur a sniper or heavy chances are u'll kill spies a lot more than they kill u.

That's a lie and you know it.

A lie? If your talking about the part where I said the spies are underpowered. In competitive play spies are completely obsolete.
Good players rarely get backstabbed unless they are busy fighting someone else. And With a well coordinated team that actively uses voice chat spies are almost completely useless.

And this is coming from someone who has mastered all 9 classes. (i've had 20+ backstabs in 1 life before but it was mostly a result of my opponent's stupidity.)Spies are only good against bad players and lazy snipers who don't watch their backs. And the only other thing they are good for is sapping stuff right before their team rush in with ubers.

Well said,

spy's are obsolete. Most spies I see on the server kill one person and die. Yeah it is a good idea to have 1 spy on a team but no more. Basically if you want to get kicks and giggles about running around and hiding, go ahead. I find it very boring a waist of time. I don't know why people are telling secretes of detecting a spy. If its that hard to detect a spy then I don't know what to tell you.

Good hunting!

A good hint for being a spy... stand near or behind a dispenser. People bump into you... they think it's the dispenser they bumped into. It seriously works. Then when everyone leaves you... work yer spy magic.

Wait, logically that's very exciting. If that statement is a lie, and we all know the cake is a lie, then that statement is cake! Brilliant. What an easy way to make cake.

Good lord Monkeybits, you totally crack me up. That's comedy gold right there!

I think that's an oversimplification. After all, one could argue that almost any class is obsolete because they have weakness X and can be dealt with easily by class Y using weapon Z.

I think of Spy as a more advanced class, and one that I'm far from mastering. Try watching some of the more successful spies in the clan, and you'll see how effective they can be. Like any class, it's those who haven't yet learned to play spy that give it a bad name.

The bet way to fid a spy in Dustbowl is to play with me. Just sit on the sniper tower with me and wait until I get backstabbed, then after I die say "Look out spy incoming dressed as pyro..." yes thanks for the warning :( sigh

People tend to forget that sappers can actually destroy sentry guns as opposed to just disabling them. Even if an engineer is hammering away, you can stab the engineer first and then sap assuming you can get in a spot where the sentry is facing away from you. Also, even a well-coordinated team can easily miss a good spy and lose a crucial heavymedic or sentry. Spies aren't for killing an entire team, per se; they're for taking out the vital targets and then leaving. I could argue that engineers are obsolete because they're so easily defeated by any respectable Demoman. I could argue that Heavies are obsolete because they're so easily beaten by Spies...wait? So if Spies have a solid purpose and can serve the team, how are they obsolete? Every class takes skill to play and a class like Heavy will not make up for a bad player.

If it tries to backstab you, it's a spy.

If it moves, it's a spy.

If it even considers moving, it's a spy.

Wow, paranoid much? :-)

One thing I see a lot with spies, is they'll be hiding in corners. And good job, NaaD, on mentioning the lack of ubercharge. I see more medic spies get away with that, and it seems that few actually know that.

Also, try and keep tabs on who is which class and where. I have seen players be both a sniper and a pyro at the same time, near the same area.

And always check names for your's, I don't know how many times I have seen myself as a soldier, and staring right at me.

I'll just put stickies around you and right click as soon as I see you get backstabbed. Haha Actually I remember you getting backstabbed right after I did when we were both snipers.

They are obsolete in competitive play is what I meant. The spy is actually arguably my favorite classes and I get 10+ backstab streaks daily. But against good players that work as a team spies just can't do much other than picking off the worst players on the other team that wander off on their own.

Pay attention to players calling for a medic. If they have nearly full health or just came from an area with a medkit or otherwise calling for a medic at a "strange" time: they're a selfish player or a spy. Either way they deserve to be shot at.
