Battle 5
Allies attack Austria from Italy on dod_old_snowcity_b1.
Allied attack of “Old Snow City”:
The Allies were met with a tough decision for their attack: either push left or push right. Two main avenues stood before them -- allowing passage into the belly of the beast (the Axis defensive positions). They chose a split attack instead.
The Allies took point on both sides, with early assaults finding minor resistance; maneuverability was easy. That is, until they ran into enemy rifles and snipers, who uncertainly peppered the landscape.
The onslaught went long into the night. In the final minutes, the remaining Axis soldiers were found hiding in the bushes and shrubbery of the frozen surroundings. This was no surprise to the Allies, as they slowly but surely weeded them out one by one. Ironpenguin and Boyle were the last to remain, working furiously to find the lone Axis soldier (who had been lurking in forbidden territory). The Allies gallantly tried to find him; however, they exceeded their allotted time and they were called back to base. The Axis barely repelled the first wave.
The second turn around was nearly a carbon copy of the first, but the Axis was better prepared. Almost instantaneously the Allies fell to the hail of machine gun and rocket fire. An Allied victory seemed out of reach until the reserves of Superglue’s squad stepped in. Lt.Nond and yours truly (yes, the Allies convinced me that I could help more with a Thompson than a pen) saw fit to hit the remaining Axis positions with wild abandon.
When I saw Nond go down my blood started boiling. I was both frustrated and eager to maintain total victory for the Allies. It was like the ghost of my grandfather, who had died a hero in the first Great War, had possessed me. Armed with only a Thompson, I took out four Axis soldiers like they were school children (perhaps they were). It was only through distraction that I was felled by a lucky Axis soldier who lay prone atop a ledge. Despite my best efforts, the Allies lost their assault.
Allied Attack Summary: The 75th Rangers Regiment moved on Austria, but the 36th Waffen SS division held off the advancing Allied forces.
The final score was 2:0 Axis.

Allied Defense of “Waffen”:
The Axis, who had lost ground earlier in the campaign, was desperate for a victory; however, they were unsure of how to retake their lost land. Their initial flurry was promptly repelled by the eager Allies, causing the Axis squads to stall and regroup.
They split up, rushing left, right, and even through the dark and decrepit sewers. The ready Allies swiftly dealt with the attackers. The first round was won handily by the Allies, strengthening the Allies' resolve and chances for victory. The squad drunkard, LittleBEER, stayed sober enough to take point, and he eliminated the last Axis soldier, NuclearCowboy.
Drunk on their fresh victory, some Allied soldiers grew cocky, resulting in their premature deaths. Seeing their buddies chopped down was a sobering picture for the Allies, driving them forward one last time. What proved to be the final battle saw a similar attack strategy as the previous one. Left, right, but with minimal movement this time from sewers, it was all or nothing. The Axis had to take control of Finland if they were to keep from being pushed out of Europe.
Victory had seemed to be secured until an infamous young Axis soldier by the name of NTK was the last to remain. Armed with only a sniper rifle and a pistol, he took out a few Allied soldiers before falling victim to Superglue, who took him out from the the side while he was scoping in on the Allies laying in the grassy heaps. With this final blow, Europe was liberated from the Nazis and the war was effectively over.
The war saw great battles of respect, courage and tactical pursuit -- both sides fought to secure their victory; however, with a foothold in Italy, the Allies were able to secure more points than the Axis, paving the way for victory in this campaign.

I think it is clear to everyone that the war is near an end, and the Third Reich is facing its downfall within the next few months. I feel horrible for doubting my good friend Compton throughout this campaign. I know he has his flaws but he is a good man and an excellent leader. His previous disappearances and the questionable tactics used in both our attack and defense are all starting to make sense. I am having this letter personally delivered by courier for the express reason of keeping its contents confidential. What I am about to tell you must never be repeated to anyone.
Herr Doktor Feldmarschall Compton has chosen to reward my loyalty by informing me (and only me) of his activities for the last few months. Without going into great detail, Herr Doktor Compton was recruited by the American Office of Strategic Services (OSS) because of his work in proctology, human experimentation, and anti-partisan tactics. I felt betrayed at first but that feeling immediately disappeared when he informed me of plans to help our troops escape imprisonment and execution once the war ends, while making them rich at the same time.
As the foolish Americans have been jumping from country to country, a majority of the territory they once possessed returned to Axis control. One town in particular drew Herr Doktor Compton’s attention: Claremont. The good Herr Doktor Compton left a skeleton force to attack our assigned positions in Finland. The rest of our troops made their way a short distance to the Banque du Claremont, also in Finland. There remained a small contingent of an American tank crew that was subsequently obliterated by our Panzerschrecks and stielhandgranate. All that was left to do was to distribute the tons of gold amongst our men.
Herr Doktor Compton gave a dossier to each soldier with escape routes, forged papers, and a framed photo of the Fightin’ 36th during our peak. Sadly, he also informed me that someone must be the scapegoat for the so-called “atrocities” we committed. That person was none other than Herr Doktor Compton’s executive officer Herr Generaloberst Matzwhat. I could not argue with Doktor Compton, but I could not let Generaloberst Matzwhat be executed because of our alleged war crimes. I informed Matzwhat of the dangers of post-war justice and invited him to join my squad and me in Spain where we planned to advise the government in anti-insurgency tactics. Herr Generaloberst Matzwhat thanked me for the information and respectfully declined my offer. We said our farewells with a salute and handshake (though Matzwhat’s hand was rather clammy and his handshake was limp).
The Fightin’ 36th assembled for the last time in a small snow-covered town in Austria. There, Herr Doktor Feldmarschall Compton gave his last and most moving speech of the war: “Okay, that’s it. You don’t have to go home but you probably shouldn’t stay here.”
Shortly after his heartfelt speech, he excused himself to play with fireworks while smoking a cigarette in a nearby fuel storage building. Sadly, an explosion from an unknown source destroyed the building he was in. That was the last time anyone saw the glorious Herr Doktor Feldmarschall Compton alive. I still have hope that he is alive and doing what he loved: proctology, human experimentation, and ignoring ethics. I do not have the luxury of mourning the loss of my good friend. I am now accountable for ensuring the safety of my Danish squadmates who have agreed to plunder their way to Spain with me and then doing what they do best -- destroying property and crushing souls (in a well paid advisory position of course).
Viele Gr??e,
Dein Schtormy
P.S. When things slow down, I hope you will be able to visit me in Spain. If not, I plan on returning to Operationechsk?nigreichland within the next few years with the consent of the venerable Archduke Yeti.

After Europe was secured, Mr_Nicoll liberated an SS uniform from the corpse of a similarly-sized Nazi soldier. Below are actual photos of Mr_Nicoll in uniform.
