Hey all, I just had a question about the usage of Vent in general. I have it up and running and all... but so far I have only really used it for clan meetings really, but I get the sense many of you use it far more often...

So I was wondering how and when you use Vent (for EGO of course).. do you use it when on servers playing?? If so.. is there a way to keep the talk relevant to the server? Or is it not the purpose? Also.. do you find that all the chat in Vent might interfere (i.e. distracting?) while playing? Currently, I just use the Valve team chat in the game.. and occassional txt chat (i.e. good shot, etc).

Just curious.. I guess I need to try it... maybe just a few words on what I need to do to set it up to use while playing (if that's what many of you do). Hopefully this will take my EGO experience to the next level.

Thanks

Vent usually has at least 10 or 15 ppl in it even at early morning times. I personally come on there to talk with ppl and take care of clan bussiness. I dont like playing a game while in vent because I get distracted trying to listen to what everyone's saying and trying to coordinate an attack.

There are a lot of regulars that stay in vent pretty much all the time, its cool to be able to talk to folks in an environment where its more relaxed as well.

I don't use vent while in game... i confuse things said in game and out. If you are going to use vent while in game, make sure the push to talk key is not a common key you use in game. Someone had crouch as their talk key i believe and they played engineer, so heard that loud clanking and sentry sounds in vent. Also, probably want to have in game voice and vent 2 different keys to talk. So people in game don't wonder what you are saying if you respond to vent and vise versa.

I should probably use vent more often. I should probably talk more often. I am a man of few words

I am always on Vent, if I am sleeping or at school or anywhere I just pop in the DAK channel. Also, I use vent while in game. It just takes some getting used to (not letting the talking bother you). I dont get any lagg because of it. VENT FTW

P.S. Just use a different push to talk key than your in game key.

I have tried having vent open when playing... but the language on vent is usually more loose..... and I keep wanting to tell them to watch the language ;-)

If you're on vent only for the meetings then you're missing out on alot of what eGO is! I'm on vent just about everynight and its great. I wish there were more of us especially later at night. I know it can get distracting and thats why theres tons of channels, some are game centric or house (for dod side) related, some are general and some are private. Theres always something going on that isnt posted on forums and theres always someone to kill time with.

I like vent, I like the conversations in vent. But if I'm not playing TF2 my sound is usually off because it's a common room and if I'm playing TF2 I need to hear the game clearly. So I'm rarely in it.

Just started on Vent this past week. Have not made it past the Lobby, but it seems decent so far. I don't usually talk much since I am on Vent, TF2 voice and Teamspeak all at the sametime so it gets a bit nutZ.

Use Vent however you want, i manly use it for chat, sometimes for game, and eGO business. You want to talk to someone just because, GO FOR IT! Have a question? theres always someone there to help. Don't be afraid to jump on because you have no reason too, have at it!
