iTunes, iPod, music problem

I used my ipod to transfer music to my computer and now all of the files are labeled with names like WUFK and random crap letters like that, I cannot distinguish which songs I want to hear out of my files, although they do show up correctly (most of them anyway) on iTunes!!! Is there a way I can reverse this problem??? Please help thanks!

I use a program that renames files based on their ID tags, but I don't have it here at work. It shouldn't be difficult to find if you search about though. If the songs show up fine in iTunes then their ID tags are still good.

There is a setting in iTunes called something like "Organize music based on name", or something similar. I had this exact same problem, just uncheck that and you should be okay.

in your case you might uncheck then recheck it as they should be named correctly but its the format they are on your ipod in if you try to burn to an mp3 cd it should correct the names into mp3 format other than that i would think on the get info page you can rename the file aside from just the tag

i just got itunes on my x64 side yay time to format the 32bit side i thinx we will see i rarely use it

hmm that sounds great, will it fix the files as they are on my hard drive though?

that didn't fix the names of the songs on my hard drive.... i got info ont he song but they are still labeled funny.

im pretty sure this is cause they are in itunes format unfortunatly at this time i dont know how to convert them ill post after i can look at home

Well, if Apple's "it just works" continues to screw up your files, then you might try Musicbrainz for retagging all of your files. I use it to get album information for files that have that information stripped or otherwise corrupted.

same here with over 500gig of music its to much of a pain to fix the file names
