I had a not so pleasant experience in Gravel Pit today. There I was trying to trace a spray in the spawn area when an =e= started badgering me to start moving. Even went so far as to tell me how to move. Kept yelling at me over the mic. For those of you unfamiliar with admin duties, you cannot play and deal with problems at the same time. You have to pause the game to do some of it.

PLEASE do not harass an eG or eGO who appears to be afk. They usually have a good reason. It shows pubs that it's ok to be rude to admins on our servers, which it isn't.

Also, an =e= should not be playing music over the mic, which this particular =e= did shortly after being asked to stop harassing an admin.

We're looking to keep our servers a place where people can go and have a good time. Every =e= should be helping us achieve this.

Oh, how unfortunate. No one should be harassing anyone on the server, let alone an admin. If someone is AFK, that's for admins to deal with. While I appreciate =e=s helping enforce server rules, rudeness over the mic is not the way to do it. You'll never catch an =eGO= using that method to check for AFK or encourage other players on the servers.

We do hold e's to a higher standard and as such I will be less forgiving of any infractions or other issues. On the flip side, e's can absolutely count on me to back them up when they are in the right or when they need help.

I agree completely, and try my hardest to help support the admins...which is where this problem comes in. I was going to post a new topic, but since I have so many admins at my disposal... I was on Convoy earlier and someone had cussed (it's been a particularly hard day in Convoy today, for some reason...); at any rate, I asked the player to mind their language, like I always do. I was told by an eG (won't mention a name at the moment) to "let the admins handle it" in public chat...I'm more than welcome to do so, but I thought that "being held to a higher standard" meant that we're expected to be more responsible than other players. I was attempting to help the higher-ups by at least asking someone right off the bat to be more respectful and to mind their language...was I wrong to do so?

On a lighter note: I want to give a HUGE thank you to eGO Michael Scott. Shortly after we cleared up ONE mess (AFTER the first mess, above), ANOTHER player let fly with an F-bomb. Again, as is my wont, I asked the player to mind his language, please. He asked me, verbatim, "Are you a f___ing admin?" To which I responded, "It shouldn't matter". Shortly after he was permabanned by Michael for being abusive. THAT made me feel great about being in eGO, and even the other players gave the admins a pat on the back.
So yeah...just thought I'd share.

The rank of e, at least as I understand it, is to differentiate you from the server populace so that you might be recognized for possible advancement. However, if there is an eG or eGO on the server enforcing the rules should really be left to them.

If you see a player breaking the rules and the admin has not noticed or the conduct is taking place in team or voice chat, you can always talk to them in admin chat. If you preface a message in team chat with a '@' it will go into admin chat which should be noticed.

ie. team_say @SOANDSO is spamming the voice chat.

What Lafin said. If you're an e, and other admins are online, don't jump on other users unless the admin isn't responding. The effort is appreciated, but it can make things confusing if an e warns someone that an admin is already about to kick, and various other situations like that.

I dunno, Lafin...I'd like to feel like more than an in-game snitch. As a part of eGO, I like to feel like I'm taking an active part in upholding the rules. And, more often than not, when I type in admin chat, I don't receive a response. I don't want to sound like a nay-sayer, I really don't; I'm just trying to help out the clan.

Have you ever noticed when there are multiple admins on and a problem comes up, usually only one of them is actually dealing with it? It is discussed in admin chat and one person does the talking. Or that is how it should be, and usually is, done. It is always best to have one spokesperson. It limits confusion and mixed messages.

As for being an 'in-game snitch', that isn't how I would have put it. Look at it this way... when a cadet graduates from the police academy he is always paired with a senior officer. Even though he has his shiny badge, he is still a rookie and still in training. That is an eG. They're enforcing the law, but they're doing it at the supervision of the veterans. You, as an e, are still a cadet in the academy, nobody is going to give you a gun and put you on the street.

And you won't always receive a response. Since there is no easy way to respond to you privately, if it is decided no action is required on the matter there is no real way to let you know that and still be discrete.

Anything that is said in admin chat will not be seen by non-admins. If an e says something to me over admin, I'll respond with a "thanks" over regular chat so at least you'll know that I saw what you said. However, If I'm on blue and some clown is spamming red team chat, I won't see it. If there isn't an admin on both teams then a heads up would help a bunch.

I think that what Moose did was important. Since the admin was not taking care of the problem, it was incumbent on Moose to try to do something about it. It should be to the admin's embarrassment that anyone felt they needed to step in. To jump all over an =e= for helping seems to contradict our standards.

The proper response, rather than "I'll handle this, you puny =e=!" would be more along the lines of, "Thanks for pointing that out." The Admin should then enforce what the =e= pointed out to uphold server standards and minimize disruption.

I know that if I'm busy getting burned or blown up, I don't always hear what's happening over the mic. I know when I'm focused, I don't always see what's in the chat box. The more eyes and ears, the better, else why would we be promoting so many people so rapidly?

Coordination and chain of command do prevent confusion, but it strikes me that the =eG= in this case might well have been struck by a guilty conscience because he *had* heard the problem and chose not to act.

Sorry bout what happened Bubbles (even though i don't really know you lol) I'm not trying to be rude about this or anything, but playing music in a server is just plain stupid. No matter what music you play, there is going to be at least one person who doesn't like the song that you are playing. If they think people are blasting crappy music all the time, they probably won't come back. And isn't our goal to try and keep our servers full?

Haseo, mic spamming by playing music over the chat system drives more players away than asking someone to stop does. There's a reason we don't permit it. You seem to agree, though I'm having a bit of difficulty parsing your comment. It seems like you're suggesting Bubbles was playing music, which she wasn't. She was objecting to the guy she asked to let her work proceeding to play music. Had admin been working properly, I think a mute/gag would probably have been in order at that point.

We absolutely want to keep our servers full, which is why we try to give people the benefit of the doubt in most issues. There is never license, however, to flagrantly violate the rules.

Moose, I had almost the exact situation happen to me a few weeks ago. I asked someone to mind the language ( a non eGO player).. and a eG or an eGO told me to "stay out of it." I dont' remember anyonw doing anything about it... and didnt find out who the admin was... the guy eventually stopped (thru no help of the admin).. but learned my lesson. In that case... GET NAMES and times.. and let council know. If you have a responsiblity of admin... all of eGO is counting on you to keep the servers running the eGO way.

Admins make judgment calls. Over-administering is as undesirable as flagrant neglect of the rules. If a name, instance of vulgarity, or spray has been discussed in admin chat and it is agreed to be acceptable we don't want an e to come along and go against that. eG and eGO have been trusted with the power to make such judgement calls and have the means to discuss matters privately to reach a consensus when multiple admins are in game. We have lots of great people wearing the e tag, but even with those who are shiny examples of what it is to be Edge Gamers they are not privy to the admin chat. Which is why they should not be trying to enforce the rules with eG or eGO on server, because they flat out do not know what has and what has not been discussed.

As an =(e)= I think its your responsibility to set the standard for other players in the server. If your not following the rules your telling everyone else that looks up to watning to become an =(e)= or an =(eG)=/=(eGO)= that you can not follow the rules. =P
