i was just curious
how exactly does the point system work??
i know theres all those things your awarded points for
but if u actually add some up, they dont equal wat people have
and you minus points for some reason

anyone one know y?

You lose points when you get killed, suicides and some other things I'm sure. What I noticed on convoy is that someone gets 15 points for killing me and I only get 2 for killing them. So I think if you're higher up in rank you lose more points for deaths. I'm not exactly sure on that though.

It all has to do with what rank the other player is. the default kill is 2 points. But if you kill someone much higher you get more points. Now days I usually get around 2 per kill like pagan. Oddly enough, you get 4 points for medic healing assisted kills. I've start playing medic more lately. haha.

haha that makes some sense
cause lots of my games im gettin triple my kills to death
and im comin out with no so many points, but that makes more sense
and yea
it seems that medics and engineers get butloads of points compared to any other class

Engineers get 5 points for every sentry 5 for every dispenser and i think 2 for teleports. they get 14 points before the round starts and they can just keep rebuilding them. They rack up insane amounts of points.

Hrmmmmmmmmm Explains why higher ups like NYPD and Pagan are so much higher up then me (FYI I <3 killing you guys makes my rank go up so much) and medics derserve the points you are the backbone of your team! HEALING AND UBER WIN WARS!!!!

the hlstatsx is actually a VERY complicated system, with huge equations to calculate you overall rank. If you want a detailed explanation of how it all works, i would ask chrisbliss. he is an expert in stats and ive had a long conversation one night with him about it :D

omg its not hard... you take my points lets say 5,000 and say that someone that kills me has 1,000 points. Divide 5,000/1000 and you get 5 then multiply that by the weapon's modifer (each weapon differs from 1 to 3). Say they kill me w. an engineers shotgun which has a 1.5 multiplier... 5 x 1.5 = 7.5 then times everything by a base of five. So 7.5 x 5 = 37.5 points (round up). I lost 38 points cause someone w/ 1,000 points killed me when I had 5,000. If you do the math but divide 1,000 by 5,000 (aka me killing him) I only get 1.5points (round up means 2).

Its a system thats meant to keep the overall stats pretty capped. But because of whats been mentioned before... engineers can infinitely raise the point cap hence raising everyone elses average points too. Think about it... if you're a newbie to ego servers w/ 1,100 points and kill Purple Huskies (who has 34,000+) w/ a bonesaw (a 3.0 multiplier). *Cough*464points*Cough*

Plus go [link=http://ego.hlstatsx.com/?mode=helpl]HERE![/link](and aparently my link wont work so click the help tab on the right) if you want any more answers about hlstats, want to see the equation or any of the weapon multipliers for tf2 dod or css.

Well, to add my 2 cents... I spent a while last weekend looking at the hlstats site and printed out the charts on weapons modifers, etc. Well, about the same time I had switched to pyro since my son wanted me to play pyro that nite. I hadn't played much pyro since my tf days. Anyways, the extra speed and lack of reloading has helped me a ton (I haven't played soldier since). I've climbed 1000+ ranks since last weekend.

Plus I make sure I at least get about 3 axes in minimum per map/session.. but if I have a clear shot from behind... axes away unless its a hwguy... then ill flame first then finish off with the axe.

I don't understand it at all. Just because you have a high rank, doesn't mean you are a good player. I think there should be a default amount of points per kill period (depending on the weapon). I love it when my K:D ratio is 4:1 and yet I've only gained 10 points because I get 2 points per kill, then a new guy on the server backstabs me as a sniper and takes 4,000,000 points (exaggeration...). If it's a default amount, then yes the more kills, the more points you have and it seems more fair all around. I wonder how many points purple.huskies loses when he gets killed by a guy with 1,000 points...

Right now, it's just not balanced because of the engineer scoring. I played nothing but engineer for a few days and my rank jumped 50 spots easy. The problem is that they get a point for building their stuff, but only lose points if they themselves destroy them. So a really bad engineer who always gets his stuff destroyed five seconds after building is getting a grip of points.

I think most servers who use HLStatsx use the default setting for awarding points. I believe min is 2 points and max is 50 points.

Also, you don't lose points when you suicide that gives demo/solider huge advantage when its come to gaining points. They can eliminate point loss if they are only focus is ranking up.

Also, the system recently changed to truck buildings destroyed by the engineer who built them. So if you build a sg near cp1 and later moved to cp2 you get only 5 (5-5+5=5) points instead of 10 (5+5=10) like before. I think it is a huge improvement on the stats.

Funny thing is Demoman is the top on the global hlstatsx chart, and there is only one engineer in top10. I think Demo and Soldiers are two most popular classes with in top 20 last time I checked. Just throwing something to people who think engineer is the easiest. Although, I do agree they are easier.

I agree with high ranks doesn't equal more skill because certain classes have easier time gaining points. It is not fair play ground for all the classes.

yea... im kind of with nemo. i would *like* to think my hlstats ranking has some a firm basis in reality but i'm pretty sure i'm not as good as my rank says i am

I'm not really sure being a good player in HLstatsX equates to being a good player in TF2. To me, the two have very different connotations.

I think a lot of the HLstatsX ranking has to do with consistency, since if you play poorly for a while your rank will drop quickly and you'll have to work to catch up again (this happens to me all the time). If you do consistently well, then your rank will rise up quickly.

i find i gain the most points when im not worried about my ranking when i did worrie about it i was stuck around 4500 pts now im just havin fun buddying with people and stealin my kills where i can and ive inched my way to 9k in no time, honestly i could be ranked # 59644 lol but that doesnt mean im a bad player.... but i probably would be dieng to much

I think your link didn't work because you had an extra character in the URL.
