Don't you hate it when...

[quote1203828336=Barlim]
I usually don't think to suicide, but instead if I know I'm going to die from flames, I taunt just before the inevitability. It's funny to see a flaming demoman go "Kabooo--aaauuugh!"

See now that is how you take it! :p

This is what I've gathered so far:

1. You get no points from rebuilding a building you've detonated (which sucks, I do that all the time to spies... sorry Owl Johnson!).

2. You lose no points for suiciding.

Are these true???

1. Correct. -5+5=0 Also, engineers get credit for killing object credits by destroying own buildings. This will screw up the destruction stats on HLstatsX. I was curious and tested it today, and sure enough I get credit for it. Odd thing is on the event page it says I lost 5 points by destroying my own buildings, but on the player stats page I got 5 point credit for the destruction.

2. Correct. That's yet another reason stats/rank are biased toward certain classes.

Oh yeah, since I play engineer most of the time I cannot kill myself. I gonna run to water/medi packs and hope for the best. I died just an inch from the resupply locker more than a few times, though. :(

I can't tell you how many times my flaming corpse has been floating in the 2fort moat, or lying on top of a health pack.

Thanks for the info!

I have never thought of killing myself to stop someone else from getting their points. I guess I am just too much of a fair player. If they got me they got me... no hard feelings. I'll get them next time even if it means I eventually have to go spy and backstab their sorry behind. lol I always get them back eventually though. People worry too much about their stats. I've never even looked at mine. I agree that looking at my stats and worrying about them would detract from the fun which is what I'm here for. I can't count how many times i have been running for a medpack when I'm on fire and died just in time for my body to land on the med pac. Very frustrating. !mistrust

I hate when the subject on fire actually gets saved in the last second. That's annoying, because it feels like a punch in the face. When it comes beeing caught on fire, I take it like a man, although I sometimes try to blow us both up as a demo.

Died in front of the med closet? I once died IN the med closet. That was annoying but pretty funny, to see my flaming body slumped in the open closet.

Personally I don't think that rankings are biased to suicidal classes like Soldier and Demoman, but they're absolutely biased against Engineers, who take a lot less heat since they typically don't die that much. You may lose 5 points for a sentry destruction, but if you lose 25 for a death then you're getting a sweet deal. The only discrimination against a class is spy, since you can get a lot larger bonus for killing than destruction.

I don't think the stats is not good measure for one's skill. However, if it is your focus, I personally take an ability to negate losing as much as 50 points any day over easy 12-14 points by building stuff when you start the round. It is one or two kills for most people any ways. :P

Speak for yourself. When I play engineer, unless we need to make a strong defensive stand, I don't stay too close to my SG. Instead, I'm usually somewhere near the front lines, mixing it up with my shotgun and pistol -- heck, 12% of my kills are with those weapons. Sometimes I'll even take potshots at the snipers -- anything I can to disrupt the enemy. If a sniper's shooting at me, then he's not shooting at somebody who might be a bigger overall threat to his team. Generally, though, I try to join a rush, helping them push, and eventually trying to build my emplacements in more forward positions. Usually I end up getting killed, but I have to try. If I can provide my team with a secondary position to fall back to for resupply, then that just might make the difference between winning and losing.

As for the suiciding... I've never really thought about it. I'm usually firing back until the bitter end. I'm like a bulldog in that respect.

That's how I play my engineer, well at least I try to when I am on offense. Although, unlike the poster most of my kills are from sgs. I still have lot to learn how everything moves in the game.

Also look at the top 20 or so of the global hlstats ranking. Majority is soldiers and demos. If engineers have such a big advantage like many believes, don't you think engineers should dominate the chart? Just a thought.
