Other than the obvious SRV and B.B. King, I'm new to the blues scene!

Toss me out some people/bands to look into, guys! I love the stuff!

Well, if you like modern Blues there's The Black Keys who come from my own hometown. :)

Other classics are Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters (my personal favourite).

Clapton, man. Eric Clapton. I know it's not all blues, but some of his work is just amazing. Also, some early Jethro Tull is very very bluesy, especially the album "Stand Up."

If you're going to look into The Black Keys(and you should) you should check out some early to mid White Stripes. Their early stuff especially shows a huge influence from the old school blues artists. Very raw stuff.

Something else that struck me as I was falling asleep:

Try Pandora. Basically, you create an account and then enter a band or song (one or more) that you like. It'll then play music like that artist or song. I've discovered quite a few cool artists that I didn't know about this way.

You can also share your stations, so that other people can experience what you like. For instance, you can go to my profile and listen to Star Trek Stars Radio, which I created to torture my students. It's seeded with the artists "William Shatner" and "Leonard Nimoy."

Well, you have to consider exactly what the "blues" are. If you mean someone that only plays blues, you're pretty limited. However, there are tons of contemporary and well-known musicians (like Flippy stated, i.e. Clapton) that have a large blues base. Hendrix did an entire blues album (not sure of name), Elvis technically introduced blues to the Caucasian persuasion, Van Morrison has some deep blues tracks, heck, even Hank Williams Sr. has some bluesy tracks. There are a good bit if you wanted to dig.

One major influence in traditional blues not yet mentioned, and one of the most recent I've been jamming to is Howlin' Wolf.

Right on Jesse. Hell, sometimes I listen to Fatboy Slim and hear blues and jazz influences wrapped up in there. Don't forget that the Moody Blues were originally just a blues band. Musical styles influenced by "the blues" are so pervasive that it's almost impossible to escape from it.

You've got that right. So much "American" Popular music has been derived from the "African-American" blues that it's really hard to not find it. It's funny... I actually had a discussion with someone at the bar the other night about the effects Elvis has had on music and the entertainment industry. DISCLAIMER!!! Don't hate me for not being an Elvis fan! I appreciate what he did, but not necessarily what it lead to. Anyway, the argument on my point of view was: We wouldn't have popular music like today's rap/dance music or pop-rock like Justin Timberlake if not for Elvis. He was the first to make it "taboo" to dance while you sang and performed. That style of music, in my opinion, is more show than musical talent. BUT, I do appreciate that because of him, I know who Muddy Waters, Etta James, James Brown, hell even Prince are. Music is the thread that binds everyone from every walk of life together.

Well, I'll recommend my dad's favorite Blues artist: John Mooney. Also check out Luther Allison. I don't think either are that well known, but I like them both.

Oh, and I'd only classify some of their stuff as Blues, but check out Scrapomatic.

Blues does vary, but an artist I have seen a few times and really enjoy is Susan Tedeschi

Funny, I was just listening to Physical Graffiti last night, and talking with my stepdaughter about how Led Zeppelin had its roots in blues music, which came through really strongly on that particular album.

Physical Graffiti is a classic album. Susan Tedeschi is awesome, especially when playing with Derek Trucks. Which is a band that should be mentioned. A lot of Allman Brothers is bluesy too.
