Tech Help New Gaming PC

Alright so looking to build a new gaming PC, not looking to spend probably more than $1000. Basically I want something that I can upgrade in the future, would like to eventually have 3 monitors and water cooling, just at this time the budget isn't there. I really have no idea when it comes to picking out the hardware. Do not need a monitor, headset, keyboard or mouse.

My first Question would be how Tech savy are you as in ability to put parts together. I always ask this before going into research stage as it helps determine best course

Also do you prefer mid or full towers cases' and what colors do you prefer?

I can put it together and most definitely ask on here for any help if I hit a road block. Just when it comes to compatibility or what level of parts I truly need. I dabble a bit in 3D modeling so I would also like it to be able to do that without any problem. I won't be doing any video editing or anything.

AMD and Geforce preferably, also I would like a full tower case.

Unfortunately, he wants an AMD/nVidia pairing. I'll be deferring to Matt on this build since he has more immediate knowledge of AMD CPUs.

I have a few builds made to show you but there is a bit of an issue coming up that we will need to speak about with using AMD and NVIDIA vs just using AMD and ATI.

I will say, I do not like the idea of making a budget build with a full tower case. That defeats the purpose of a budget build as you're automatically kicking the cost from around $50 to over $100. I had to cut corners, namely the storage. You can do a 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD for about $130, or just go with a pure 240GB SSD for gaming storage only.

The one issue i have is the powersupply with this build to make it more budged will not allow you to use SLI in future Also i did not select a CD drive so if we want to add one ( recommended depending what you do) It will be a bit more.

If building it another way using AMD and ATI (which I have not a clue what that means) is easier/more compatible then by all means go for it.

This is a slightly updated build to make it bit easier for you to setup as well as solve 1 or 2 issues i came across with the older build. ALso do you have a preference on CDROM? Currently we do not have one so it may add 15-30 depending what type you want.

AMD and ATI are the same company. Dont let matt skew your knowledge on that. ATI has been bought out for many years now. Dont bother looking at ATI branded products as its all VERY out dated.

I5 / Geforce 970 is an option on the table still and we have a build for that as well but i have not gotten to speak with him yet about it to explain the pros and cons..

I am not at all derailing a thread. I am correcting you on the information you are giving him. He is not wanting ATI. I have not heard anyone refer to the AMD cards (since 2008+) as ATI. Its been gone long enough and people refer to them all as AMD. He wants AMD. Not ATI. Those are two very different things and with ATI products that are used and possibly N.O.S floating around you should not call it ATI as it gives him wrong information. ATI branded cards are still out there. They are very OUT OF DATE and are not what he should look for. He should be looking for AMD. Anyone who refers to the new radeon cards as "ATI" needs to get more in tune with tech nowadays. So yes. You could have been skewing his knowledge on that tech as you now have him referring to the card as ATI. Which is, again, wrong and should not be considered or referred to as ATI. They've been out since 2009-2010.

Now that I had to explain why I was correcting you on that, I am sure your build is fine. Just dont have him looking up "ATI" branded cards.
