Hey, i was wondering if you guys know of any good headsets for 30 bucks, or if i should just buy a mic instead.

I was going to recommend mine, but they don't seem to be listed on the Altec site anymore. I only just got them at Christmas. Bah. They're muff-style headphones with mic made by Altec Lansing. If you can find them, they're awesome.

I'd recommend against a desktop mic... we all (read: especially me) hate listening to gaming sounds over your mic. And it causes echo if you talk at the same time someone else does.

I use a logitech desktop mic and have never gotten any complaints.

i got the logitech notebook headset, only because it goes behind the ears instead of over the head. I just got it last week from bestbuy. i dont know who it was but in vent someone commented it was the best they had ever heard...

I used to use the [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-980462-0403-Internet-Chat-Headset/dp/B000TYQPSS/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1204143578&sr=8-5"]Amazon.com: Logitech Internet Chat Headset: Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41296n5Bl3L.@@AMEPARAM@@41296n5Bl3L[/ame]. I bought it for about $15 at Target a long time ago, but you can't really find it in stores other than Amazon anymore. Overall, this was a nice, cheap headset. No one complained about my voice quality, they were comfortable to wear, and I would still be using them if the cord didn't get attacked by one of our cats a few weeks back.

After it became clear that I needed a new headset, I searched around for a good long while for one that was high quality, well rated, and wasn't overly expensive. After poking around for about a week, I decided on the [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Labs-51MZ0310AA002-Fatal1ty-Headset/dp/B000RI397G/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1204143624&sr=8-1"]Amazon.com: Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset: Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41ercaC7c1L.@@AMEPARAM@@41ercaC7c1L[/ame]. I never used the can-style headphones before, so it was an experience. My first impression was very good. The booms had depth to them, I could hear faint sounds in the background I hadn't heard before, footsteps and splashes were much more clear (definitely helps your situational awareness), and the sound was generally amazing by comparison to my old headphones. As far as the mic pickup goes, it works very well with two caveats. Sometimes I accidentally slide the mute mic switch. I think this is due to a combination of my roommates using my computer and the fact that the switch hovers just below my keyboard tray, causing it to switch off as it moves past the tray. So, I can't really blame the headset. However, sometimes people say that I'm really quiet. I think this is due to the fact that the mic is very uni-directional in order to isolate ambient sounds. This means that the mic must be very close to directly in front of your mouth in order to pick up the voice properly.

In the end, I'd recommend either. If you can spare the extra money; however, go for the Creative.

I bought a cheap-ass™ Logitech headset at Wal-Mart or Target (don't recall which), and it's been working like a champ. I think it was $25 or so.

yeah mine was a logitech usb from wallyworld

i definatly recomend usb over jacks clarity is the key

i got bose comfort headsets for playing with no mic :-p or ill use my desktop mic when i do that

20 dollar USB desktop mic because I'm not giving up my 100 dollar headphones for anything.

I bought these for jackpot. They say they're 49.99 on the site but I paid 29.99 at the store. VERY nice for the money. They're USB too which is pretty nice.
