A Foundry Server Recommendation

Have we ever had a successful rotation of any kind?

I think we did when koth_ maps came out. And I guess I'll count valve maps as well, you know, if it wasn't for the constant change between it and removing it.

All in for the "Yes" and "Maybe" maps. All of toese maps usually have high playerbases on servers.

If we do do this, though, we need to announce it on all of our servers at least a week in advance. We should've done this with our IP changes, too, so pubs are in the know.

If there was a way to direct our Foundry regulars to a poll, I'd be all down with the idea. I think we've learned that communication is crucial. Not to beat down anyone.

I couldn't agree with this idea more. The eGO Foundry server will always hold a special place in my heart. It introduced me to a great TF2 map and an even greater TF2 community, and I'm excited to see the server grow.

If we do make Foundry into a 5CP rotation server, I would recommend implementing a voting system that includes the option to extend the current map and that has a run-off vote for the top two choices. This would ensure that every player has a say in the map selection process, allowing the server to remain active and happy. I've seen it work on other servers and have no doubt that it would work on the eGO server.

I kind of touched on this. Something we're guilty of as a community is, on our servers, never updating the little automated announcements that go out. For example, on other servers, a chat message would pop up and say something like:

Join us on our Teamspeak at [insert URL]

We don't. And they rarely change. When we were working on changing IPs to the current scheme, it would've very much help to have this message circulate in the chat:

Our servers are moving! Check our forums at edge-gamers.com for details!

And then TF2 Leadership posts a sticky detailing the new IPs. We didn't do that, and now server population isn't that great. If Foundry changes into a 5-CP rotation, we'd need to do that.

Foundry will soon change to 5-CP Rotation. Weigh in on our forums at edge-gamers.com!

It's not much, but it's still more awareness. I'll be dropboxing this to raise awareness with Leadership.

The overall population across all our servers has been very low recently. This is probably due both to the IP change and school starting up.

I'm all for new maps - I play almost exclusively on our servers, and I get bored easily when it's the same map over and over. What I really want to see, though, isn't a rotation server, but a server that only changes maps upon a successful vote. So if we have 12 on 12 and everyone is having fun on the current map, then it just keeps running that map. If the majority of people want a map change, then a vote can be initiated and a new map chosen, and the server runs that map until another vote to change passes. I'm not sure how that would work on the tech side, but I'd love to play on that kind of server.

So, like a vote to vote for a new map? Yeah, if there was a flaw with Valve's map voting system, it'd be that, that a command by one person should conclude that everyone wants the map to change.

Is it bad that I hate all the Yes maps except process and love all the No maps?

I absolutely love Well; Freight was a one of the few maps stamps I ever bought since I loved it so much. But golly I hate badlands and gullywash and coldfront and doctors and lawyers and cops. Of course I hate most 5cp in general so my opinion holds little weight.

I play on foundry because I like 5CP maps the best and the Foundry community has a great collection of regulars. The community and competition is what has attached me to this particular server.

I am fine with a map rotation as long as the maps are decent and the users can vote for the next map (or extend the current one). I would love to play against my foundry friends on other 5 CP maps too.

Whenever I get some time to play some TF2 it is always sad to see 0/24 on the Foundry server and this is occurring more and more. Something needs to be done and I am certainly willing to try something to see my foundry friends more often rather than slumming on a valve server somewhere.

Thanks Avo for making the survey! I have updated the OP, as suggested. I will also be distributing this survey around to all the Foundry regulars I have on my friends list.

This is very well crafted, Guacamole and Avocado. I would love to see this happen. (I want all those maps to be in the rotation!!!)

Why don't a bunch of people put the link in signatures? that way maybe people see it all over the forums...

Or ask the news team to write something about it?

UPDATE: So far, we've collected 59 responses for the Foundry survey. Nice job guys! We're going to need a few more responses for statistical analysis. So keep spreading the word and keep up the good work!

^^ This. I like this idea.
