Cannot connect to steam

Suddenly after a restart I cannot connect to steam
before the restart, I was trying to delete securom and starforce files from other games.
and afterwards, I couldn't connect to steam.
Any help is appreciated.

Steam was still working before the restart.

to be honest, i would definitely hit up valve about that issue. while you were playin a game (if it was online), did you do something to make valve permanently ban you for some reason? if not, i would definitely hit up valve about the issue if i were you. either that or go onto their forums. that would be my best advice

Do you get any error messages? Describe the problem and any messages in as much detail as you can.

no error message, except the regular "steam cannot connect" stuff. The problem is now fixed. It seems like the steam client did not shut down correctly previously when I restarted and something screwed up. All I had to do was re-restart and wait some time. And no I did not hack or cause VAC to ban me. Thanks guys for advice.

Edit: Oh ya, and when I tried to reconnect, there was a "steam updating" dialogue box, and then steam worked.

Anyone else having this problem of connecting to steam saying that it is "offline" or whatnot, simply go to your steam folder (C:\program files\steam) and delete the ClientRegistry.blob file. This should force steam to update when you try to start it up again and it should work fine from there.
