Spawn camping

Do you guys frown on spawn camping on the eGO servers? I know on some servers they consider it cheating or against the rules or whatever, how do you fell about it?

I can't speak for the whole clan, but I personally think spawn camping is bad form. Not cheating or exploiting, but it's just not something that should be done as it's quite unfair. It's one thing to try and clear out the battlements on 2fort or placing stickies on the grates in dustbowl, but to hang around and wait for people to step out of the spawn just to be immediately blown up isn't very sportsmanlike.

I'm sure that others will agree that we hold ourselves to a higher standard.

This is actually a pretty old subject, so I'll tell you what I've seen and heard.

It is perfectly FINE to spawn camp, as long as they are actually going for the objectives. The rule is, if you allow them to get you in that position, then you are the one to blame.

There was a case in which a clan came on a server, and tried to grief by spawn camping, and ignored the objective. That is a bannable offense.

Unless things have changed we don't enforce spawn camping. It's considered a viable strategy during a game and it's just something the other team needs to learn to get around. Shooting through the gates is still not allowed, but piping them or spamming the respawn area in gravelpit is in accordance with the guild rules.

On a side note, I do however agree entirely with Ninjafluff.

Contrary to what NinjaFluff says, I hold myself to no such standard and find a great deal of sport in seeing if I can backstab an entire wave of respawns in one pass.

Valve made it so you can't go into the actual spawn of your enemy, how much more do you want? Look both ways when coming out that door mate.

Yeah what Ninjafluff said is pretty much how I feel. Just wanted to know how everyone else felt. Sorry if this has been discussed before but I'm new to eGO. I was playing on the eGO warpath server the other day and a demo kept spawn camping with stickies. Just seemed out of place, it was the first time I'd seen it since I started playing on eGO

Demo are the worst spawn campers too. Sacrifice one person and he's done.

Now a medic'd pyro? That'll stall a team long enough to retake 1 or 2 points if the other team pushes.

I don't hover around the respawn area, but if I'm there and can help my teammates to the objective, I don't hesitate to try to kill them as they come out the door. To me, if a team is able to effectively camp the spawn, for whatever reason, that just demonstrates their ability to work well together as a team. It does get annoying when individual players do it non-stop, but they usually pay in the end as everyone concentrates on killing them.

Okay, now THAT I'll go for. The first thing that comes to mind for me with spawn camping is when I saw a team mate post stickies right above the metal door to the sniper spawn on 2fort. He wasn't going for any objective, and wasn't doing anything aside from waiting for them to come out.

If it's for temporary suppression, say, a demo placing stickies over the doorway to the main spawn in 2fort while covering a dozen scouts rushing down the spiral, that's acceptable. If (s)he can keep it up long enough, game over in 2 minutes.

I am glad, however, to see the opinion of others on this subject. it's always a good thing to know your clan mates better!

If you get spawn camped you deserve it. If you use the logic that we should enforce spawn camping then why not enforce people doing anything? Be existential lol I agree with laffin
