well i am at some body elses house rite now fixin their computer so i cant tell you the hardware manager thing but i can go ahead and tell you that my on board sound is disabled and i am runnin off of my maddog sound card right now....i have installed that software once...deleted it...and reinstalled it(talking about drivers for sound card) and it never showed up as mad dog sound card hardware or anything like that...i dont have a mobo manual but my mobo is an intel D865 PERL...the onboard sound on this board was messing up back when i had dial-up so i had to disable it...i got this board off of ebay in "perfect condition" idk if the onboard sound is disabled when i do disable it though...wait no it is disabled cause i tried using it one day and it didnt work....do you think that there is a piece of hardware that should be deleted like smwmd.sys or soundmax...soundmax is i believe part of the maddog sound card hardware if i am not mistaking...

Maddog cards use C-Media chips (8738 I think is the 5.1 channel one), except for the 8.1 channel card which uses the Via envy24.

I had the same one.... but dumped it because there were too many problems with it...

Ah, having never heard of Maddog I wasn't sure. But that makes sense. In that case, you could definately use an update, though from their website their NEWEST drivers are 2002. Ugg. Might be time to get a new one, can't do much worse- I had a Audigy 2 for ages that served my purposes, but someone else might have a better suggestion for cheap end cards.

According to your dxdiag your onboard sound is NOT disabled. Soundmax is the audio on that motherboard, if it was disabled in BIOS windows wouldn't even see it. Reboot into BIOS and go to 'Advanced Menu > Peripheral Configuration' and switch Audio to disabled. Then hit F10 to save and reboot.

well seeing as how it says it is disabled i really cant do that....so yeah....wat do i do just unsoldier the chip on the mobo? and hey lafinass as for that favor...there are no listed things with an exclamation point...hey guys seeing as how the best solution for this is to get a new sound card i just want to thank all of you for helping me with this problem...special thanks to lafinass for letting me send those things to him and him taking the time to look at em...TY AGAIN!

IF it isn't being caused by the sound card misbehaving, then it's likely a bad RAM chip. Essentially, those BSODs are kicking back dump files that say 'this file' messed up 'at this memory address', so if it's not the driver or the video card, then it's the 'at this memory address' that is the problem.

You could always try using the onboard and uninstalling the sound card... They are both basically the same thing -- a processing chip that still relies on the cpu. Only differences would be sound quality or compatibility.

well onboard doesnt work well with the mic...i will probably just get a new sound card (a cheap one) and see where to go from there...i did just add one gig of ram soo...yeah is there any to check for errors on the RAM?

Burn that ISO to a CD, boot from the CD, let it run overnight. I generally don't consider RAM proven clean till it's run for 12 hours without an error.

Also might be worth switching memory slots... it's amazing how many problems can be solved that way...

hey i tried to get the disk to boot up and it wont...i have the boot sequence set to CD-Floppy-HDD...any suggestions?

Some BIOS's require you to push 'Enter' or 'Any Key' to boot from a cd. If there is a 'boot delay' option, try to set it to 5secs to you will have time enough to spot it.

I'm pretty sure the 'bootable' properties of an iso image are transferred no matter how you burn it, so it should boot up somehow...
